800-1200 won't get you a very good 1080i wall-mount.

you can get really nice tube HDTV's for that price though.

also, what viewing distance will you be at? you don't need 1080 if your viewing distance is 2.5x the screen size or greater.

phillips 47 inch with ambilite.

we got one about a month ago and it is awsome!!!

You got one for $1200?

I'd look for a good deal on a Panasonic 42" plasma. I haven't been in the market for a while, but they're probably not too far from your price range.

I dont think thats in my range LC.....

My viewing range would be around 8-10 ft.

I dont need top of the line, I just want something that is a good value, has a decent display, and something I can hand on my wall. Plasma or LCD

For pure picture quality best value in my opinion is a CRT HDTV. You can get a nice 34" CRT HDTV in your price range and the tube TVs while heavy and bulky produce deeper blacks, have great viewing angles, better brightness and contrast and don't have any burn in or ghosting issues (although admittedly the burn in and ghosting issues are basically non-existent on the current generations of quality LCD and Plasma TVs). I have a 34" CRT Toshiba HDTV myself and prefer it to my parents 50" Hitachi Rear Projection LCD for the reasons mentioned above. Of course you can't mount a 200lb tube on your wall, but you can get a nice stand for it or put it on a piece of furniture made of solid wood. Here's a passage from an excellent HDTV artilcle:

Conventional tube-based TVs

Experts say that despite newer technology, good old conventional fat and heavy direct-view CRT TVs give you a reliably great picture, and they're less expensive than other types of HDTVs. While conventional tube-based TVs are still popular, falling sales and closing picture-tube plants around the world have led many makers to reduce the number of sets they offer, or even eliminate them from their lineups completely. Also, because these heavy TVs have a big footprint and require a lot of depth, the largest size HDTV you'll see is 34 inches (measured diagonally), and most are smaller.

While other types of TVs each have annoying issues such as viewing-angle problems (LCD and LCD rear-projection) and burn-in risk (plasma), conventional HDTVs are virtually trouble-free. They also have a longer lifespan than plasma TVs and don't need any special maintenance. Rear-projection TVs, for instance, need to have their lamps replaced about every 6,000 hours.

While reviews say they are getting close, the picture quality of neither plasma nor LCD yet equals the image you'd get from a conventional CRT-based HDTV. The advantage of plasma and LCD TVs, of course, is a sleek screen that takes up very little space. But note that while they may be thin, larger flat-panel TVs are still quite heavy and wall mounting often requires professional installation.

If wall mounting is that critical I'd wait for the SED technology as Mack suggested. SED will produce the quality of a CRT based TV, but will be wall mountable like a Plasma or LCD TV. If you must buy now I'd suggest reading the article below. It includes recommended models of various technologies based on overall reviews and includes links for further reasearch at the end of the article:

I was looking at Vizio, I have heard good things about them. Hows the picture quality Cobra? Thanks for the article althoma

Well i only have the 20 inch, i got it for my bedroom, so i cant speak for the larger models, but i love it. I mainly use it for my 360, and games look phenomenal on it. Its also one of the only sets i could find with HDMI, and built in HD tuners at that size. Price wise and performance wise, you cant go wrong.

I'd recommend a Sharp LCD HDTV. Friend got his for $1200 around Christmas. It's pretty nice, 37". Idk what model, but this here for $1000: http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/main.de...p;cm_ite=E01999 looks exactly like it only my friend's is all black. I was looking into a TV, but wound up not getting one just yet...but I'm really liking the Samsung and Sharp tvs a lot. The pictures on the seem to be a lot nicer, maybe it's something with the color richness or something, but they seem to be the nicest.
