Anybody From New York

Recommended Posts

hi there, i am looking to come to New York in November time with the missus. Hoping to catch a Rangers game while across there ( im from England and its something i always wanted to do). Do the games always sell out. i dont wanna end up in some crap seats were i cant see anything! also are there many hockey stores within the centre of New York dont really wanna be traveling miles out o the city to go somewhere. Any other hockey and non hockey things you guys can recommend taking in while in the big apple apart from the obvious stuff

thanks rob

No, they dont usually sell out.

also are there many hockey stores within the centre of New York dont really wanna be traveling miles out o the city to go somewhere.

There is a shop called Cosby's in MSG that usually has a half decent selection, but the prices are crazy. I guess they'll still be cheaper than back in England, though.

Any other hockey and non hockey things you guys can recommend taking in while in the big apple apart from the obvious stuff

What are you looking for? Food, clubs, shows, arts, shopping, etc ?

Head over to Darkstar50's shop in NJ if you have the time. He has a nice selection and I would imagine the prices will be better than in the city.

chelsea piers has a small but decently stocked proshop. There was a shop in union square whose name eludes me atm that used to have a decent selection, but I don't know if they do anymore.

If you venture into the outer boroughs, there's a big shop in brooklyn (Wonderland Sports in Bensonhurst), and some smaller ones with good selection in queens (Sports Plus in Ridgewood)

Devils will be easier for him to get out there, it's only 7 mi difference. Or you can take the LIRR from Penn Station to Hempstead (my hometown) and take a cab to the Mausoleum.

Hempstead is just ghetto.

Haha...well not all of the parts, but yeah, you know...

Coming back from picking up my girl from school, there were a couple nice chalk outlines with some red, aswell. Sure, not all parts are bad ;)

Not trying to scare you away or anything.

Yep. Still have a couple of relatives who live there. I also used to live in Central Islip (before that got real ghetto, this is around 1983) I used to spend my summers there when I lived in the Dominican Republic.

Hey dude, I usually play at skatesafe, but I am always looking for a skate if you ever need an extra.

oh yeah, i've PM'd you before about when i'm playing, right?

my main roller team plays at skatesafe. but we scrimmage against some other people sunday mornings. we're starting to go to deer park. worst surface ever, but its a good sized rink with benches & is usually empty.

smithtown started getting too crowded, & despite the good surface, its a small rink.

Is Deer Park still rough black top-ish? Last time I played there had to be years ago in the Islanders sponsored Roller tournaments.

Game, what division do you play in at SkateSafe? Im there more often than any other rink on the island. If you see a supercharged M3 outside, im around.

I helped out a family from Sweden last Thursday. Their first stop after checking into the hotel was to come to our Pro Shop. I had to laugh when the 9 year bought a Junior OPS. The blade patterns were Easton/ Forsberg, Nike/ Naslund/ and TPS/ Sundin!! He got the TPS/ Sundin. Send me a PM and we can talk more off the board.

Hey Rob,

I am guessing you will be staying in Manhattan while you are here so drop me a line or PM me and I can fill you in on places to go and things to see. I would have to agree with the other guys that the proshops in Jersey will probably have better prices but if you can't make it out there the shop at Chelsea Piers has a good selection (as well as West Side Skate and Stick). Additionally if you time it right you could take in a Monday night game at Chelsea Piers (Elite league) for free and see some former NHL/AHL/ECHL guys play a pretty exciting game of hockey (they are still young guys that stopped playing for a living).
