Forsberg's skate quest....and what next?

Recommended Posts

Vapor xx sole on a xxx boot...interesting. Anyone know if there's any reason for that or is it inconsequential.

Forsberg's ankle/foot problems are a serious issue. He has already tried numerous skate moulds and inprovisations to illeviate the problems he is facing but still is experiencing serious pain after an extended period of time in his skates. He has worked with Bauer,Graf and Easton to try and find a solution with no success to date. It just may be his body has had enough abuse and it's time for him to hang em up but he is just unable to deal with that. Most of us get to a point where our mind wants to do something and our body just will no longer do that thing. Many of us will not accept that after years of unfailing health and mobility. Perhaps Peter has come to that point and is in denial as well. For his sake I hope this is not true because he is a fabulous hockey player and I'd still like to watch a little magic on the ice from him. However if he is at that point I think it's time to consider a new direction in his life and wipe his hands clean of his professional hockey career. If he can use his talents in another field, to the same capacity he has played the game, success will surely follow.

That strap kind of looks like a super-heavy-duty version of something New Balance uses on some of their shoes: the laces run through two loops of webbing that wrap around the midfoot. Seems to be the same principle that was used on Forsberg's skates, just slightly different placement and an independent buckle.

theWB - maybe there's something about the XX sole that makes it easier to 'build up' to meet the arch of his foot. Shrug.

Serious ankle injuries are tough to recover from. Just look at Grant Hill. His ankle looks like he stepped on a land mine. He's still hanging in there in the NBA, and basketball is a much less-natural of a motion sport than hockey is. I dont know whats up with Forsberg. He may just need to hang um up or take another year totally off.

And there are no Swedish skate manufacturers. Jofa used to make some skates before, but that was quite a while ago, and most of them were not high-end models anyway. Well, Rebellion and Salming do make skates I believe, but I haven't really seen anyone using those at that level.

No, Salming no longer makes skates but, happily, I know where one could find approximately 269 pairs of their latest incarnation.... :D

Well in Sweden there's RBK/Jofa, but I don't know nothing about that.

I think the RBK factory, or RBK for that matter is in Quebec. I could be wrong tho.
