Pens and Caps Equipment

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't Sid just get his new sweaters from the equipment manager as opposed to the pro shop?

Yeah I highly doubt Syd goes to the pro shop to get a new jersey.

Aso very surprised Clymer was at practice because he was scratched for the game.

Scratched or players returning from injury still practice. Josef Melichar was skating during the Pens practice and he's been out a while.

Cherry was going off on Malkin & Ovi hanging out on Saturday during Coaches Corner. He was talking about the "good ole days" when you hated your opponents. You didn't hang out with them...especially not on a game day.

Not to high-jack the equip thread...but what do you guys think...? Are players too friendly with each other now? Does there need to be a little more hatred?

Awesome pics - thanks for sharing! I always love seeing what the pros are actually using. It's kind of cool to see Cindy's skates all beat up....even though (s)he's still a punk....

I was able to meet the Yotes and Caps in the locker rooms on New Years Day before their game. Shane Doan gave me one of his sticks. I was psyched.

Ovechkin is super nice too. For a 'superstar', he doesn't act like it at all. Totally approachable and down to earth.

please tell me you enjoyed the experience and just not the equipment

Let's see I got to watch my older brother skate on the ice at Mellon Arena for 2 days, I got to meet Mario Lemieux and Marc-Andre Fleury, I got to see 2 NHL teams practice and had a tour of an NHL locker room. The equipment was the last thing on my list of enjoyment.

I know exactly what ya mean. DC101 had a party for Ovi's 21st bday at a bar after the Caps game the night of his bday. He came by and said hit to probably hundreds of fans, I was one, and was so nice.

It was kinda weird to see them hanging out, Ovy was just hanging out with Semin in the runway watching the Pens skate and then you just see Malkin walking through stands (none of the big guns for the Pens skated) and the 3 of them just started BS'ing. Ovy was showing Malkin his new stick and what not.

In this day and age, it's possible to be friends off the ice and enemies on it, IMHO. Especially when people are from similiar upbringing/regions/or teams leading up to the NHL.

In the good ol days....hockey players barely made enough to survive. Today, players are financial assets as well as hockey players. When players are not competing, they are reflecting the business of the NHL. The game is not just a sport anymore....it is a business....the same business that makes Don Cherry more money than he deserves. I like his old school attitude for the most part, but he does not understand that the NHL is not just a game anymore. Do you think in the good ol days of football or baseball they would hang out with each other? I think not. All professional sports have become businesses, so Cherry is a little out of touch with today's reality.

I think that being hockey players especially at that level is like being in a fraternity. Some arguements and some bad blood sometimes but overall your similarities are more than your differences. Especially with those players from your homeland, whether it be Russia, Sweden, Canada or where ever. It's not Gordie Howe hockey but it is the new NHL.

Does Crosby re-use his skates?

Like more then 4 games at a time?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. My dad got me a Crosby jersey for my birthday (an authentic reebok). He got it from the shop at Mellon Arena. The lady said Crosby comes in there all the time and picks up new jerseys. The jersey I got was the last one they were getting in his size so I probably took the jersey he was going to use eventually.

Stupid question but what does you getting an Authentic Crosby have to do with him re-using his skates?

i know crosby switches gloves a couple times during the game because he doesnt like them getting sweaty - the announcers talked about that the other night when the pens went to overtime.

Obviously most players switch sticks a few times - but i haven't heard if crosby switches skates often - the only reason i think he would do that is maybe its quicker than taking off your skates to be sharpened?

Players DO go into the pro shops to buy jerseys for friends and stuff. They surely dont buy for themselves but they also do not get everything for free.

Pro's do not wear the 'authentic' jerseys sold at the team store. Pro's wear specially 'tagged' jerseys. I believe there are two sets for each player (home and away). In each set there are three jerseys so there are total of 6 jerseys for that player in the season (not including playoffs I think)

The Penguiins need to have Crosby changing equipment as much as possible, just so they can sell the stuff.

Yeah that was one thing I was a little upset about, the last couple times I've been to games at Mellon Arena they always had Game Used Stuff for sale at one kiosk, this time they didn't. I bought a pair of Ramzi Abid game worn gloves for like $50 and they also used to have skates and sticks. If I recall the kiosk now sells packs of hockey cards for like $5 each.

crosby... almost straight, larionov... almost straight. both excellent passers and both know how to put the puck in the net. gordie howe... straight. you don't need a big curve to play the game!!!
