Yet another curve question (Zubov)

Recommended Posts

If I recall correctly Zubov sticks are hot property, alot of guys like that curve.

That would be due to the fact that the big chief at Cadbury-Schweppes Worldwide (i.e. Dr. Pepper)'s son who is 8 gets dibs on EVERY stick that he ditches. Most that do wind up being for sale didn't meet an 8 year old's approval.

The sad part is that he is just as brutal of a player that I am, but everything he owns is pro stock from the Stars.

This would explain why I've never seen one of his sticks at the Star Center's Pro Shops.

I've held one for GLUHipfan, next time I come across one I'll put it on hold for you.

saw a bunch of "Zubov" pro stock sticks at national sports in Toronto.

they were sherwood xcomps

might just be sticks stamped with his name.. no idea if they were real zubov's

curved looked similar to modanos, but a little more curve and a little more loft.. lie was low too.. 4.5?

I used to be one of the guys that would kill for his stick...but I got too tired of it. Moved on, the curve on Taylor's mission pro stock blades has me now....I really want more of those. I never like how small the Zubov blade was, or the lie.

Hey, Drew, If you come across more than one, put those aside too, I'd be good for a few...

the best way to get one of these is to find sergei at a stars practice, when he is getting off the rink, just ask nicely for his stick. Thats what i did. Man, do I wish I could get my hands on another one of his sticks.

Was this recently? The only way I could really see that happening would be if they skated out of any of the non starscenter's (away) or any of the other starcenters besides frisco, because they wouldnt have the protected area from the ice to the locker room. It was just too hard to get one of his sticks for me and his shafts were a bit stiff for me. So I dont know anymore, I used to know one of the equipment managers, but he is no longer with the team, and he was the only guy I knew that I could get them from.

When they practice, as far as I have witnessed, you can't get down there to them. You can watch from the elevated area between rinks, or outside the rink itself.

the gig to have for that stuff is a locker room attendant or side rink staff (ie the guy who brings the pucks to the penalty box)..then again..you typically get those gigs by a combination of 1. not bothering them and 2. knowing them from elsewhere...

the stars guys who bring the pucks out etc don't get paid..but know them from the traditional day in day out business world

I was able to catch the stars practice at Matthews Arena(on the campus of Northeastern University) a couple years ago when they were in town to play the Bruins. A lot of NHL teams come in to skate there when the TD BankNorth Garden is not available for practice. Not many people know that, so I was able to ask Zubov when he was getting off the rink, just did it nicely and got a stick out of it.

Ah. The practices at their facility is easy to get to see but not up close and personal.

It's very hard to get a decent Zubov.

Right now, I've got 4. 2 SLs, a Dolomite, and a CNT Stealth (which Drew held for me).

The SLs were brand new, and the other two used. When you see one used, chances are it's shot to hell. I know that on the last release of Stars pro stocks when I was looking, at least two leaked out. On one, the blade was snapped. On the other, it was in decent enough shape, but the bottom and ends of the blade are very worn. It's solid enough for me to use, but I don't know how long it'd hold up if it were my primary.

However, from comparing curves by eye, if you can find a Klemm pro-stock, they're almost identical curve wise. I couldn't tell any difference between the curves side-by-side, but I'm no expert either. I believe Klemm's blade was longer though.
