I've never been caught by anyone, but i've geared up whenever I got new equipment because I tend to buy stuff in bunches for some reason and checked to see how I looked in the mirror lol.

I also wore my skates around the house to break them in and get used to the new superfeet in soles. Oh and I'm 22 :)

i am going to wear the skates tonight to work in the new superfeet.

i wear the gloves sometimes for no good reason, when i got my new ones i was wearing them to "break them in" and fell asleep on the couch with them on. Woke up with hot and hands, flung them off and went to bed.

I put on all my upper body stuff last night and posed in front of the mirror. I've never really seen myself with my stuff on. At least recently.

I'm 29.

Domileafs!

Before the season began I would wear my (new) gloves and skates around the house for an hour or 2 to break them in.

I got caught once.

My wife just looked and said "I don't want to know...." and took the kids upstairs.

A lot of times when I played up through to Junior I knew quite a few guys who said they felt tough and stronger in tehir gear which is why they liked to wear it. It also gave us an identity as a hockey player which we all knew went a long way with the ladies.

So does this mean you guys would wear your gear when you hung at the mall (or if old enough) went to the clubs?

That sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit!

guilty as charged.

any new equipment gets worn around the house for a few days, and it seems I put on my gloves every time I try to pack my bag after airing out my gear. Freshly taped sticks usually get some pucktime in the living room too, especially on the night of a game when i'm just killing time before heading out.

Add me to the list...

Trying on another pair of gloves (CCM Pro Tacks) while working with a puck on the new Thorton curve V120 blade on an Easton Ultra Lite shaft.

Some of us gear whores just can't get enough of trying to find the right feel for our gear.

My lawyer has advised me to plead the fifth....

btw... the just breaking the gear in story only works with the girlfriends for the first few times.

Or so I'm told.

I haven't broken in "new gear" in forever. What? That wasn't some sort of euphemism? Never mind.

I have those days where i just wanna see how i look in hockey gear so i usually try em on from time to time. I'm the only athlete in the family who requres that much equipment so whenever my brothers catch me they'd always give me a weird stare i usually give the "breaking in my equipment excuse"

most of the time though i usually wear my helmet after i clean the visor, i only play once a week and my bucket would stay in my room for that whole week until iplay again.

theres another guy bound to hit this thread who better come out with his story cause he does the same with his roller gear!

Other than wearing skates while breaking them in or gloves to work on stickhandling, I haven't really worn hockey gear for the hell of it. I did take a look in the mirror after getting all my stuff for the first time, though.

I do remember when I was a young lad and played little league, I loved to wear my baseball socks and cleats. The parents didn't care so much for it on the hardwood, though.

EDIT: I'm going on 22, and I still think myself as "growing up."

Hey Royals98,

For your first post and your first question, you sure came up with a good one!

I admit it: "I like the smell of leather hockey gloves in the morning." Sorry for the "Apocalypse Now" reference. I have watched a game or two with the gloves on. Kind of like going to the ball park with your Rawlings baseball glove. I'll stop now. I see the truck with the guys in the white coats pulling up.

I'm the same way with my stick. Sort of like the thinking bat in "A Few Good Men"

...Then I gave my cat a facewash.

I LOL'd...Really....still am! Great visual.

I've put on shoulder & elbows to see how well a new jersey fit over my gear...but as far as just wearing it for the hell of it...no, never done that.

...I don't have a cat!

Has anyone ever tested their gear outside of a rink?

As in have someone else fire slapshots at you in front of a wall?

I picture a guy with a bad French accent (or a bad guy with a French accent) providing a cigarette and asking "Do you have any last words?"

This is the funniest thread I have ever seen. Hook, you killed me. My wife thinks I'm crazy for some of the stuff I do...I showed her your first post and she now thinks I am somewhat normal. Thanks.

hahahaha I've done that a few times as well.

only thing I take off are my shins, skates and gloves. Whenever I stop at lights and intersections people in other cars look at me as if I'm insane. It's also funny as hell to see my teammates reaction as I walk out of my car with full gear.

Another thing I've done when I was younger was when my parents were gone, I cover the linoleum in my kitchen with water and practice stickhandling and "lacrosse" moves. My brother whenever he'd get new pads (he's a goalie) he would go upstairs to his room with all his gear on and proceed to do butterflies over and over again. All you would hear was "thud... thud... thud..." for hours. This would go on for weeks.
