Beef jerky

Recommended Posts

I love me some beef jerky. I give props to Wild Bill's, Pemmican, and any specialty or gourmet brand, there are tons.

Flavorwise, I like straight up smoked. Cajun or habanero if done right is also good.

Healthwise, it's like eating pure protein. Nice post-hockey snack, when it's late at night and you don't want to eat something too carbed or sugary.

Theres a few local brands here that are good. I'm not really one for the name brand bagged stuff. I like to grab "cow licks" for long roadtrips (the thin wide strips that you cant eat.. you have to naw on it till its tender enough to tear off in your mouth).. good stuff.

My dad is a hunter and it seems every time he shoots something, at least part of it is turned into jerky. Mostly he makes Deer and Pheasant. There's an ample supply from october until december every year, and on a slow night I'll just sit at the computer or in front of the TV with a ziploc bag gnawing away.

I just started eating it a few months ago and am hooked. I always associated it with Pepperoni sticks, which are terrible for you, so I steared clear. Once I found out theres almost no fat then I grabbed some. There isn't alot of options around here, I usually get Terriyaki, or sweet & spicy. Jack Links is the brand I usually have.

My roommate's dad made some quail jerky a few weeks ago, it was damn good. I used to eat it a lot, but now that I have to pay for my own food I have a hard time justifying $7-8 for one snack.

My girlfriend bought me a dehydrator for Christmas and I've been making massive amounts of beef jerky. I've been tinkering with the ingredients forever and I can't get it just perfect yet. I always eat it during school.

Soy Sauce is the secret ingredient. I swear, that stuff is just gold when it comes to meat.

My dad sometimes buys the premade sauces. He gets them at hunting conventions, but Im sure you can find them online or at larger supermarkets.

If you are travelling through South Dakota, buy some Sturgis jerky. Expensive, but the best beef jerky out there!

One night in November one of the squirt dads comes in with this big bag of venison jerky that was just amazing. Some of the other guys in the shop had some and couldn't believe that the guy standing in front of them made it himself.

You know I've always had Slim Jims but never thought to try Jim Beans or Jack Links before, but now I really want to.

Also anyone ever try the brand Oberto or something like that?

Got a bag today for my 2.5 hour drive. Not terribly salty, nice flavor (I got Hickory) and quality meat. It's a nice mainstream jerky, but I still say Wild Bill's is the best I've had.

aww man venison... I love the taste but I am terribly allergic to it! I've had it once and I swelled up like a balloon. Had to get like 3 shots and felt like I was going to die.

We have a local beef jerkey that is pretty damn good, they have this tropical one that is amazing. Most tender and flavorful beef jerkey I've ever had. It's called Grizzly's.

I play with the distributor for Jack Links in BC. He brings on boxes all the time, and quite often the shitty brand stuff from stores that they cant sell.

Nothing even comes close to their quality, aside from home made.

Not a fan of the 'American' beef jerky. I get stuff from Asian stores, tastes so much better and it isn't as salty or as hard and chewy. Love the spicy ones especially, then they got pork jerky too which is outstanding.

I'll back Asian jerky. Taegu brand?

I want to try the hottest jerky ever made. My quest begins...
