ovechkin visor from the all star game?

Recommended Posts

it is not a standard "clear" blue visor, there is a fancy name for it which im sure someone will add, and it has been debated wether ovechkin can wear it in a professional contest or not. Im sure someone will elaborate...

I've done some research on it...no where to be found. AO actually got the thumbs down for this visor as well so you won't see him wear it again. It is an awesome visor though. I talked to an Oakley rep and custom hockey visors aren't an option(yet). If they're smart they'll mass produce these, I know people who would kill for one.

Unfortunately I doubt the masses will ever have a chance to experiment it. Who knows though, they have sticks with speed holes now so I'm never sure what can be done.

Actually...no. It's suprising how many other sources of information there are beyond MSH. Like human to human communication for instance, which you might not be familiar with.

Cmon mack that was pretty weak...I usually look forward to your comebacks. I have to admit I'm usually waiting for you to drop into someone's thread and slap them in the face...but bringing my "mom" into this just really wasn't necessary.

It's not a comeback because there's nothing to come back to. You're replying with information that's been posted here since the all-star break so it's moot where you heard it from because it's not new here.

Just to clarify, he got the thumbs up from the league, and thumbs up from Martin Brodeur.

He didn't technically get thumbs down from anyone, GM George McPhee said he probably shouldn't wear it, so he didn't

I didn't see anything in my post that said I had "new" information. Yea your right...what I did say has been brought up, but I was putting in my two cents to the guys question. Him not searching on the topic is on him. I know there are threads about it because I've posted in them. I'm new to these boards as well so I figured putting in some actually information may have been useful, instead of just insulting him or anyone else.

True, but because the NHL won't allow it doesn't mean that it won't make it to retail because of that. Granted that may have an effect on it, but you can still get smoke/mirrored visors at retail levels.

^ Don't do that.

It's not available for retail, probably won't be and I doubt they actually have made enough for you to even be able to find one without prying it from Ovechkin himself.

are you sure it's the blue iridium? Oakley charges nearly $100 for the cheapest pair of sunglasses with iridium lenses, claiming* that the iridium is the reason of the cost and toughness of the lense. I couldn't imagine oakley making one for retail considering that they'd probably want $400 or more for it. Also iridium tends to scratch pretty easily.

Oakley has made blue visors in the past and I would imagine that they'd make one in the future but I doubt it will be an iridium lense.

*Oakley's profit margin for their sunglasses in unreal. If you know the employee discount of the basic "piss-on" that works for oakley you'd know how much they actually make on each pair of sunglasses.

What they are releasing may not be blue iridium, for general retail, but thats what the Oakley rep told Tarik El-Bashir (washington post beat reporter) and he done a bit on it before the game, because ovey was using it in practice beforehand.

well if it's not blue iridium it's not going to be much different than what they've already released... sounds like clever marketing to me. If they do go with the blue iridium or "ice" it would be pretty ground breaking. But chances are that oakley will want to make a pretty penny on it as well as not lose their whole "the iridium is the reason why are sunglasses are so expensive" bs.

I was told by the CCM rep that in fact it will be the blue "ice iridium" lens. They have been offering this in the football shield for over a year now. What I don't get is the assumption on price. The football shield is $40 in the Ice Iridium pattern.

You just can't compare the lens for sport to the lens of eyewear in price. Anyone that works in the eyewear industry will tell you how high the markup is on retail eyewear. My first job out of college was at Marchon in Long Island. I remember selling Calvin Klein glasses for $80 to the retail stores...and when you saw them in the store the tag was over $250. Lenses are similar in markup.

Most (all) fashion retail outfits have rediculous markups. It is a must to make a profit. You have to account or markdowns, shortages, and employee discounts like any other retail store, but you must also factor in the fact that you must sell the item in a very short period of time before it goes out of style. There is a lot of pressure in retail. A higher markup gives you some more breathing room.

of course there's a REALLY high markup. But Oakley claims it's because of the iridium lenses that drives the costs(we all know that's a load of bull). I doubt that they are banking on loosing that selling pitch to gain a few sales of the "ovechkin visor." I, of course could be wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it. Plus iridium lenses scratch really easily, I at least hope that they'd coat the lenses in something to keep them from scratching to avoid the "After one ice time my ovie half shield is all scratched up" threads.
