Stars' President hits out at Predators franchise

Recommended Posts

Well, other than Nashville being a classless organization, you can't really blame them for not celebrating an opponents milestone. I'm sure the stars can have a recognition ceremony for Modano when they get back to Dallas

It is pretty much an unwritten rule to acknowledge a significant milestone of a visiting player. All it takes is a brief message on the jumbotron saying,"Mike Modano has just become the top all time goal scorer among US players." Perhaps a brief announcement over the P.A. The crowd would have given him a round of applause and everyone would have been happy.

Sure, Gretzky passes Howe for all-time NHL points in out-of-town barn and there is no announcement? Any more brilliant ideas?

Yay for the US, but he's a visitor and I wouldn't expect anyone breaking some other country's record to get anything. Would some city in Canada do anything for this? I'd doubt it, but I'm sure everyone will say they would have. Get the puck, sit down and have a water on the bench.

I'm pretty sure when Sakic scored his 500th goal it was announced. Then again he scored it in Vancouver which is a stone's throw away from his hometown.

I would've expected Nashville to do something with hockey over there supposedly struggling. It would've made the fans feel special if they knew they were part of sporting history.

Modano mentioned Nashville as one of the teams he'd like to see contracted in the NHL a few years ago. That kind of stuff doesn't sit well with Nashville fans. I wish I had a link, but I don't.

Recchi scored his 500th in Dallas right after the AS game. It was announced in the building along with a graphic on the jumbotron at the next stoppage and Recchi recieved a well deserved standing ovation.

I was at that game here in Vancouver. They stopped the game for a couple minutes while there was a big announcement on the PA and Joe got a very loud and very long standing ovation.

No, it wasn't exactly a moment of class for Nashville. On the other hand, this isn't peewee level hockey. What's next, teams complaining about being booed on the road? Old Mike will be congradulated for this milestone the same way he is congradulated even when he isn't breaking records, a fat paycheck for playing a game while most people in the US are struggling to maintain a decent place to live and cars that run. Not to mention, if memory serves, he's banging Willa Ford so I'm sure he'll recover from the terrible slight of not having his record announced during the game.

One could argue that it was an opportunity to educate the local fans and embrace an historic moment on the ice and the Preds dropped the ball. They promote hating and disrespecting the other teams and that attitude is not good for the NHL as a whole.

No, it's not a good attitude. But Dallas could have taken the high road and not said anything about it. By complaining they've merely lowered themselves to Nashville's level. Nashville's poor behavior would have been pointed out, but with Dallas joining in the fray it just looks like two petty hockey clubs instead of one.

mack, ur honestly an idiot. im sure if u were the all time leading goal scorer for americans in the NHL it would be a little different to you

Why would it? I'm sure I'd be proud of it like I assume he is, but I wouldn't be butt-hurt if a visiting city didn't mention it like the majority seem to be. When Norway's leading goal scorer gets a shout-out over him, then we can all piss and moan. Till then, clamp it up.
