My Update

Recommended Posts

Well when MSH went down, apparantly so did my username/info and my topic post.

I had my first league game last Monday and yep, the men were suprised that the Kim on their team wasn't a Korean male, just a plain ole american female :)

Next words--can you skate? Luckily I knew one of the guys from drop in and he said yeah, she can hang..

So I went off to the lower level fitness center locker room to change and returned to my locker room for line/position assignments. Then we voted for captain/assistants (IS this odd for a level E league?!) Whatever I don't care--then we were told we need to turn in our jerseys this week for numbers on sleeves and names on back (Again, ODD!) Whatever again from me...

I went out and played..nervous as hell...but I believe that I had 2 assists and we won 5-0...So it was a good night. Lots of compliments from the guys and they enjoyed the beer that I had brought (hey I gotta be nice since I'm bucking the system at this rink!)

Told them I hate the basement locker room and walking on carpet stairs to get to the rink. I am going to change with them (I'll come in a bit early and undress quickly ) Other than that, they said we'll work out the locker room logistics

Next game-tomorrow night. Hope I play as well.

Thanks for all of your insights/comments! Much Much Appreciated!

sounds great... we've got some ladies playing at the drop in with us on thur nights. There isnt really a locker room since its an old roller rink, and everyone just changes there and then. The ladies just take their tops off, and are already wearing sports bras and tights. I guess its a matter of respecting each others privacy and not look

there are about five women playing in out league now. They make some of the men look real stupid real often. and in the learn to play hockey league there are a bunch of women. One of the best goalies in our area is a women. Id rather play on the same team as most of the women than most of the men.

Awesome! Good going! The girls that show up to play in the rink here change in the Women's CR, but I think your idea of showing up earlier would work just as well.

It seems that there's always some logistical dressing issue to work out for women in guys leagues. That's great that you had a good time, hopefully you keep enjoying success in the greatest sport ever.

I have 2 daughter's in the sport, as well as my wife, and as stated in your deleted post there are always a few of those biggots that are on the ice to attempt to prove their manhood and give them flak. Most are good about it though, especially once they've shown they got chops, as you experienced.

Good luck! ...though it sounds like you'll be fine with out it.

Thanks for sharing.

Not to steal your thunder, just meant to encourage. This is a look at women in a mens world. In the video my girl got 2 goals, 2 assists, and 2 mins.

BTW, she is the only girl the organization has ever had. These pics are in Canada at the Silver Stick Nationals. They are consecutive, the first is her greeting to Canadian boys hockey, the second is their immediate response.

One of the 2 mens leagues I play in is a 4 team C league. 2 of the teams have women. One of them and a few others regularly play pick-up. They change in the same room as everybody else. While neither of the teams I play on have women, I've been at pick-up when they've played. Used to be in the army (paratrooper), played lacrosse and hockey most of my life and never had much positive to say about women in those fields. To be honest with you they get respect, treated like one of the guys and you really don't notice their there at all. I mean you look down at your bag find the necessary piece of equipment look down for the most part while you put it on your body and before you know it your dressed and so is she.

Sorry for going off-topic, but which Silver Stick tourney did your daughter play in? Were you in Newmarket?

Thanks for the comments. She was in Thedford, and Forest, Ontario.

I am all about women competeing against men on most levels, and totally support their goals and acheivements. You can be a lady and still kick some tail.

So, good for you kimmy, and keep it going!!

There is a woman that has come out to our charity games, and she can play as good as nearly all, and better than most.

Also, we just got e-mailed our team lists for the new league tonight, and it looks like there are 4 or 5 ladies spread out over 4 teams

I think lower level hockey, for adults is fairly good about things like this. We all just want to play, regardless of who is what.

Fair play kim

There are two women on my team, they hold their own and don't ask for any special treatment. Everyone just uses the bathroom adjacent to the "room" to

change when appropriate.

You can be a lady even while you're dropping the F bomb like a sailor! (Pink gloves was mic'd up this game for a documentary. I'm #4 blue. It might be hard to tell but she's saying 'F*&^ Dave' since he gives up the puck in the video) She's one of the better defencemen in our league.
