Easton Stealth S15 question/problem.

Recommended Posts

Not to hijack the thread, but I figured it was better to ask this here than starting a whole new one:

I too just got a set in today (no LHS within 4.5 hours of me so I had to order it online), however even the wide feels pretty narrow. Anyone have any ideas regarding a skate that fits almost identically to the S15, but is wider in the forefoot? I've tried CCM/RBK skates and they do not fit me at all, and I haven't sharpened the S15's so they're still returnable.

As I mentioned, there isn't anyone that stocks any wide skates within a reasonable distance so unfortunately just trying a bunch on is a little tricky.

You must have a monster foot. It and the 8090 are the only skate I can wear in a D.

And to top it all off I have TINY ankles too. My foot has a totally bizarre shape to it. I actually needed to go a half size larger (from a 9.5 to a 10) in order to make the skate bearable (which, thankfully, the 10's are definitely bearable). Less than ideal to be sure, but necessary none the less.

Needless to say, I'm having a tough time finding that perfect fit...

I have a similar problem...extra wide mid foot/forefoot, narrow heel. I've been hoping that the Stealths will work for me, so am waiting for those to come in. JR, you said "It and the 8090" are the only skates you can wear in a D, are you referring to the stealth?

I was thinking the same thing. Even the D is a little loose on me.

Do they make this skate in a Narrow model?

Yesterday I used a heat gun to roll out the upper part of the boot. I then skated for about an hour in the s15s last night, and they still tore the hell out of my ankles. This time I even wrapped my ankles with a decent amount of prewrap. This morning both ankles are scabbed over and one is a bit swollen. I'm going to go back to work on the skate with the heat gun and try skating without the lifts under the footbed so my foot and ankle are a little deeper in the boot. If this alleviates the problem, I will just get lifts installed between the boot and holder to correct pitch.

On another note, I spoke to another friend of mine who wore 1500s while playing a season at SNHU. He has scars on the outsides of his ankles from this problem, and he also has bad calcium deposits on the inside of his ankles from the stiff inside of the skate rubbing. I'm surprised that Easton hasn't solved this problem yet being that it seems to be a pretty common occurance. A couple of my friends that were considering buying these skates have been turned off because of seeing what they have done to my ankles and learning of this problem.

I may have to take a little time off to let my ankles heal before trying these skates again.

Tony

try a more supportive foot bed in the instep. It could correct the aliment if you are pronating.

This could be a result of pronation? The S15 footbeds are simply a thin squishy flat piece of foam. There is relatively no arch support, and I do have extremely high arches. I just ordered grey superfeet.

This could cause rubbing on the upper outside of my ankle?

JR Did you drop a size when switching between the 8090 and the S15?

Tony, I can completely relate to your problem. I received a pair of 1500C's and I wore them twice...loved them besides the fact that they tore my ankles up. I just can't put myself through that again, it just hurts too bad and I don't forsee it getting better with more use.

It seems to me this ankle chaffing problem is very common with the newer "C" series skates. I am very fortunate that I can wear the "C" series skate and they fit me perfectly. I have had no issues whatsoever with them and the same goes for a lot of my hockey league buddies. But there seems to be quite a few number of people who just can't wear the skates because of the ankle slicing problem. This is something Easton will definitely have to address. It's got to be something to do with the way the skate is designed and a resolution needs to be found. Just another glitch in the newer lines of skates. Every manufacturer has them.

Went for the first skate in mine today. Very impressed! Width didn't bother me too much either. Didn't have any problems with ankle chafing or anything (though I do wear thin socks), and overall was very pleased. Definitely worth the investment.

From what I've read the S15 is a wide skate. Will it become a narrower fit after it is heat molded to the foot similar to the way Kor skates mold?

Mine became slightly less wide, but not a significant amount.

If this ankle problem keeps up, I may have a pair of slightly used 8.5 S15s for sale!

If you are getting torn up that bad your foot probably isn't right for an Easton boot.

It has nothing to do with an issue of the skate fitting your foot.

No skate, including KOR, gets smaller after a bake. Heat fitting expands skates.

Question for kid with the problem: Are you tying your skates evenly tight up the 3 ankle eyelets? The problem could be as simple as you're pulling the top eyelets tighter than the rest and causing the top of the skate to fold in on your ankle.

If that were the case it would imply that everyone who wore this skate would have the same problem.

Sure it does. What is the difference between all the people who wear Easton skates with no discomfort and people who have the ankle problem? The size and shape of their feet.
