JR Boucicaut 3789 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 LOL I was kicked out of a league when I was 17.Now it's a little different - since I'm an employee, I can't do anything crazy or I can get fired over it. So when The Apocalypse comes I'm gonna do something outlandish...
D3nZ 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I was never suspended but I was thrown out of a game once, I was never the big physical guy with the behind hits, I was more of a body contact player. Won the most sportsmanlike conduct award once.
kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Yeah I've got suspended a lot. I'd say in my life time, I've probably been suspended 20 games. Last year I did pretty well and only got suspended for three games, which is a drastic improvement from the eight I got the year before. What'd you do? stix04 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 wow 8 games kosy, in my league if you get 2 games misconducts ur done for the season unless you go infront of the president and board of the league and they reinstate you.
kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Yeah the 8 was from back when I still thought I was tough. It was always my mouth that got me in trouble. It really wasn't worth it to be honest. I'll go back and look at my team's stat book from this year to see what exactly I got suspended for.First one was for slashing/intent to injure. Just a little hack to a guy's knee. He went down and cried while grabbing the WRONG knee, I got kicked out. On the ensuing PP, he gets the gwg. Second one was a third man in. Long haired freak jumps my buddy from behind, starts pounding the back of his head. I go in and just throw the guy off of him, no punches or anything. I get called for third man in, but the other two "fighters" didn't get called for any penalties. So the third man in rule wasn't the right call, because according to the refs, there was no fight to begin with. Can't find the third one, but I think I crosschecked someone or something. Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I'm usually good, when playing contact, for about 2 suspensions a year. They differ in length. They tried to suspend me a few years ago for 8 games for a double facemask, but I ended up getting one game. We were in a tournament, Championship game maybe 5 seconds left. I came out from behind the net and a guy took a run at me, but he just bounced off of me. I dumped the puck out and he was pissed, My goalie a close friend was the only guy around so he two handed him around his waiste. I turned back and grabbed him, another came in, grabbed him. both by the mask, third guy came in and just hammered me (with a hit) then our team came down. No punches or anything though so thats why I didn't get 8 games.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I got suspended a couple times this year. My outdoor roller hockey league is pathetic. They tried to kick me out of the league because i scored too much, but it didnt happen. I was suspended for a toal of 5 games out of a 15game season. There was easily 3-4 fights a game. predshockey17 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 My outdoor roller league is a joke also. I don't know if this is apropiate on here but i called a kid a faggot. Cause he checked me in the neck.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 It depends on what league I'm playing in. I playedin three this year, and I got suspended 6 times in HL, 5 in Selects, and none in High School. I always seemed to get suspended for intent to injure or boarding. Really I was just smoking kids cause they had their heads down, my league basically hates me because I should be playing up a few levels and so everytime I nail a kid I have to sit the next game. Selects, all 5 were for fighting (4-0-1 record last year) and then obviously I didn't get suspendedin High School, mainly because I didn't want my ass kicked or made fun of at school the next day. D-MaN88 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I haven't really been a guy that gets a lot of penalties, but a season ago i got kicked out of the very first game of the season and suspended the next for checking from behind which was a bad call because the guy turned at the last second and i couldn't stop from hitting him from behind and he layed there crying about how his collarbone was broke and right after the refs took me off he got up and was skating fine. Lets just say i wasnt to happy with the officiating in that game. But i mean you can't always help what the refs gonna call and whats going to happen so i really wouldn't worry about it if it wasnt that serious.
JR Boucicaut 3789 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 The greatest thing I ever did at my rink was when a guy punched me right in the face. I dropped my gloves, yanked his jersey over his head, dropped him to the ice, put a knee in his chest and cocked my fist and said "You're DAMN LUCKY I work here," and got up and skated away. tyler33 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I only got suspended once, well twice actually but that was really gay and I got suspended for a period because I threw a kids stick. But in summer hockey last year I got checked in the back really bad and there was no call, so I got up and started bitching at the ref, and he was gonna give me an unsportsmanlike so I said o you want to see a penalty huh? I threw my stick at the kid that checked me in the back (he was only like 4 feet away from me) and just ran at him and started kicking his ass. The refs threw me out of that game and I got suspended for one after that. Besides that I have gotten in about 3 fights or so and they only kicked me out for that game. Cavs019 708 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 A kid on my team last year got suspended from USA hockey for a year for kicking out a refs legs and telling him to eat his #$^. This kid also had some serious roid rage.
wolveshockey10 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I have gotten suspended twice after being thrown out of a game. I also led last season with PIM. My mom gets mad sometimes. I dont do really stupid stuff though. Last season I was going in to hit a kid and he kind of turned on me so I ended up hiting him from behind. He hit his head on the glass and started crying. I was thrown out and suspended, then he played started playing again. PANZY!!!

Here if you fight you get thrown out of a game and then suspended. I think its a bad rule.
kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Thats pretty much the rule everywhere. Tyler's fights probably involved a gloved punch to the helmet. Real fights, like drop your shit and actually go at it are a pretty serious offense, I know Chadd or someone will know the exact call on them.
thejackal 46 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I got suspended for a game because the ref THOUGHT i gave the other team the finger as we got off the ice. (it ended 1-1, GTG by yours truely  ) Stupidest sh!t ever. Dumbass refs....
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 The way I look at the hits from behind is that if you can't stop or change direction enough to not plaster the guy into the boards from behind, then you're playing out of control and a danger to everyone on the ice. Try playing the puck a bit more and not look to crush a guy who isn't looking. As for fighting, every ref calls it differently and they know a fight when they see one but can't explain it. Call should be a 5 and game for USA Hockey certified games and that means you get an extra game as well. The local HS league is three games for a fight. Fighting in youth hockey is a joke anyway. Grow some balls and blow it off. Get the number and line him up for a killer check when you can. Nothing better than clean, legal retribution.
lee92 2 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 lucky enough for me, ive never been suspended nor kicked outta a game. ther has been many close calls though, i can tell you that, with littly pansys turning on ya at the last second so u do end up hitting them from behind...i hate that so much
kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Thats why, at least in USA Hockey, checking from behind is at the ref's disgresion. If the guy turns, or it isn't a brutal hit, it can be called a 2 and a 10. But if its brutal or in the boards, its a 5 and a game.

They're trying to avoid a hit, nothing wrong with that.Theo:It has to be legal, too many people skate halfway across the ice before burying the guy with a cheap shot. I got tossed from a game for looking at the ref after I had a penalty. In the states, if your in a fight, is it "proper procedure" to take your own helmet off?Chadd - High school hockey is really bad around here for that. The refs are urged to give the extra always to retaliation and with the 2 strike rule it makes for alot of very dirty play. Nobody can fight because it's an automatic strike, but the refs rarely call anything other fights or hits from behind a game misconduct (strike). There's alot of butt-ends, spears, and kicks that go on, usually the agressor ends up with a PP because the guy will punch'em or just get'em out of his face and end up with 4. It's really frustrating.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Chadd, so you are sayig, if a guy intentionally waits untill the last second to get rid of the puck and then turn, its still called for check from behind. See I think that's the BS part. Seems to happen alot. Another example is when you line a guy up and he turns *with* the hit into the boards, not even before it. I just find that not fair. I think that should be unsportsmanlike conduct or somthing.

I think that should be unsportsmanlike conduct or somthing. Two very different examples. In the first case, it sounds like a charge as well as checking from behind. Not to mention the fact that once he passed it, there's no good reason to nail him. Plus, why are you coming in perpendicular to the boards in a way that you hit him directly from behind? Sounds like you're out of control. I expect the guy is supposed to just stand still while you run up and drill him into the boards? That's asinine, of course he's going to try avoiding the hit. Take away his passing lanes and box him in or angle him off.In the second example if the contact is made on the front of the body it shouldn't be called. However, if your hit spins him into the boards it could easily be boarding.Blaming the guy who gets hit is a joke.
