Hole in plug of shaft

Recommended Posts

I just got done watching the wings game and saw that zetterberg's plug in his stick had a hole in the middle of in it. Also when at the wings game stopping at hockeytown authentics i saw that chelios does the same thing. (and on tv). Anyone have any ideas or know anything about that?

its probally something ridiculous like weight reduction. i have a chelios "se" and i took the plug out...on the top it looks like a regular plug, but from the bottom it has a hole drilled out.

I was going to give the weight reduction answer too, but that looks too small to make a difference in weight (but maybe that's still why, since I know people are such picky weight-babies with their sticks). Or maybe he fills the stick up with gatorade, and takes a sip through the hole if he gets thirsty during his shift.

That's pretty sad if it is. I wouldnt think cheli would need weight reduction on his stick after all these years.

Maybe he keeps a colony of trained fire ants in there to attack opposing forwards when the referee isn't looking.

I can't possibly imagine something like this would be done to save a few grams - especially at the butt-end of the stick, where it really won't have that great an impact on the perceived weight of the stick. If we're going to argue weight, then I would guess that this would actually make the stick a little more blade-heavy, which could be possible, but, given the minimal amount of weight displaced, I would have to say this is also HIGHLY improbable.

Judging from that picture, you can't really see how long the plug is, but if its short, wouldn't it be like from a screw tapped in for ease of removal when its heated, especially when its cut near flush to the shaft? Thats my guess.

the plugs come like that. theres a hole drilled from the bottom of the plug to the top.and when you cut the plug it is visible. when i cut the plug that came in my st thats how it was.

Mine as well. That would make it easy for trainers (and players) to keep the sticks the same height, quickly.

Yeah, I've only seen the holes in 2005 ST plugs. Maybe it's weight reduction for the purpose of saving a couple bucks on shipping like 100 sticks.

My guess would be to possibly balance the stick out slightly? I dunno I'm just puttin it out there

I heard he pours lead in it to add weight to it, he likes a blade light stick.

...I'm NOT serious.

ugh swingweighting.... I'd like d2 3-PW sw & lw @ d6; d2 one90; c9 vapor xxxx.

next comes blades that are offered not just in lie but in +10g increments for every inch you cut off (a la scotty cameron mil spec putters)... maybe a gun metal oil cloth... overpriced collectible dancing Warrior or NBH stick bags...

sorry...i was in modsquadgolf mode
