cougarscaptain87 13 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 after reading the hole in the end plug topic, it lead me to get thinking about who uses and who doesnt use a plug/cap in their sticks. personally i use a plug in my ak 27's becasue they are shorter, but when i use anything else i refuse to put the plug back in just becasue it always seems to rattle. does anyone else take time to notice this or could you really not care? also is there any reason other then legnth that you use a plug/cap? just curious.-Garrett

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I use an endplug in anything too short(ie redlite shaft, synthesis shaft and composite syn. blade). I either cap or tape(a lot of tape) over the end of the stick so I don't get that "hollow feeling."
cougarscaptain87 13 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 i noticed that you mentioned the hallow feeling earlier, i really couldnt tell a difference between my plugged and un plugged sticks, do many people notice?
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 You notice it more when something hits the shaft or you take a hard pass.
swede 52 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 how long sticks do you guys use? I allways end up removing the end plug, and cutting off 3-4 inches. I'm 5'11 and my sticks comes up to an inch below my collarbones..
cougarscaptain87 13 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 i use a short stick as well, im 6'2'' and my stick is the legnth of an older easton wtihout a plug, or like mid neck without skates
Cue 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I use an endplug to balance out the stick, even if it means cutting almost flush with the shaft. And I do feel that having a plug seems to dampen the vibration when you receive passes, this could all be in the head but I feel it does dampen by picking up the vibrations in the shaft walls and sending it to the plug and up my hand, hence better feel too. MLSman 22 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I am 6' 3" so I need to extend the length of my UltraLite shafts. I use a hollow carbon extension plug...I like the hollow because the loose dried glue gets a chance to come out and my stick no longer sounds like a baby rattle. barrett 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I just use a cap in sticks that fit right. But a plug when the extra legnth is needed.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 ^^yes. That's part of the feeling of the "hollow" shaft I'm describing. It feels like you're playing with a pvc pipe.
Tyler B 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 You notice it more when something hits the shaft or you take a hard pass.same reason i use a plug... i think its mor eof a mental thing... you know its hollow but as soon as its plugged it doenst seem that way anymore...i always cut a wooden end plug so its like a 1/4" long for my sticks cause i like it better when the shaft is plugged. AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I use them... I also think they feel funny with nothing in the butt end. Depending on stick height, I use either a plastic end cap, or a composite butt-end from a few Easton's my brother bought. I have a nice little collection of plastic end caps I yank out of broken sticks.
voss 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 i find the stick feels more solid with an end cap

beaver5 1 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 cut my finger up bad last night playing inline without and end plug.never going commando liek that againahaha
James 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 I never cut sticks. If the stick is to short, I will use a composite or wood end plug preferably composite. if I don't cut the stick I put those little plastic caps in. I like my sticks relativly big because it gives me more reach around other players. My sticks usually come up to a little above my nose or mid nose (without skates). Roach 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 I've always used an endplug and also find it to dampen vibrations. I just can't seem to like the feel of team-mates sticks that do not use endplugs. In the same note, I have a team-mate that swears by not using endplugs. What floats your boat and what you can play with.
Sven 1 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 I plug AK27's.I second that and last week when i got my stick and had just an Easton shortish plug in the house i just took a broken blade, put in in the shaft and sawed the blade off, took sandpaper and now i got a primo length endplug which is also a bit smaller than normal endplugs and feels pretty nice in my hand. 3hirty6ix 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 Sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but my question is basically pertinent to this subject. I just got a new stick and lost the cap thing at the end. And as other members describe, it feels quite hollow. Do shops even sell single caps?I play really amateur hockey and don't know much about this stuff.
