Best Chassis

Recommended Posts

Alrighty guys. Which frame, in your opinion, is the best? I know that there are many people here who swear by the sprung frame and/or Hummer, so let's hear it. Hi-lo, straight frame, Hummer, sprung, v-form, Easton big-wheel, one-up, tri-di, etc.

Sure Grip H-400. I still don't buy into all the Hi-Lo crap and what not. 4 76mm wheels with the slight rocker in the front combined with Swiss bearings was the sh*t.

I think its all personal taste. Keep in mind, what everybody uses is generally there favorite setup. I am sure there is at least 1 person that uses each setup you listed. The hottest thing right now in the sport is the Sprung chassis. As a person that has never played Ice...I couldnt see myself adjusting away from my Hi Lo's. Its all a matter of opinion.

The Hummer to me, Its basically a HiLo...but I cant see myself trying something new.

The best setup for me is the Hi Lo

W/o a doubt, the hi-lo is the most emulated chassis on the market right now. I mean, you got the CCM/RBK doing the tri-di and Bauer with the One-up. As far as I can tell, the hi-lo is going to be a mainstay for a while.

My personal preference is the hi-lo. I really haven't tried the Hummer a whole lot, but I'm willing to have an open mind as far as that goes. Guys that I've seen that do have the Hummer frame on their skates seem to have a better top speed than the hi-loers. The one frame I can't get my mind wrapped around is the sprung chassis. What's the point? Are there any MAJOR advantages?

I have tried several and am currently adjusting to a Sprung setup which I think will be great after I get used to it but I still like my E-Frames. The E-Frame gives you a low center of gravity and a narrow wheel base.

10 years of being on most of the different types listed I have to say that the Sprung Chassis is miles above and beyond anything I've skated on. It is by no means a perfect setup and I still feel that Sprung has allot to improve on but with all the "bugs" it still rips the Hi Lo to shreds in my opinion. I don't think I will ever skate on anything else, assuming Sprung is kept in business by us loyal customers of course. ;)

Oh man that Predator... goalie chassis right there.

I am a Hum'er guy, but it really all comes down to which one you feel better on intially. When I was transitioning over to Hum'er's, it was an almost instantaneous, "Damn this is awesome," kind of feeling. I had skated Hi-Lo all my life before that, but Tour had an awesome deal, so I took a shot, and I loved it.

Hi-lo all the way.. I was just given a sprung chassis and am going to try it in due time. I'm so much more comfortable in the hi-lo than I was on the flat 76's that I can't imagine the sprung being that much better... Hopefully I'll be surprised.

I have skated on everything but sprung which i will try next, hummer, vanguard which im on now, he10000 hi lo and he950 hi lo. I cant seem to find anything i like after i sent my he950 back to mission. I miss those skates even with all the problems the mg chassis with 72-80 seem to work best for me.

For the guy's who have tried both.... What's the take on the new vanguard compared to the normal hi-lo.

Is it's performance benefits hype or not?

only one true "best" chassis... VIBE VIBE VIBE!!!

i also use the tri-di and don't notice any difference from a hi-lo setup. only problem is that it's a nightmare trying to buy wheels for it and you can forget about ebay. :(

The original VIBE was a joke. Those things made you slide like mess and they were LEAD WEIGHTS!

Has anyone used the Labeda Sensor? That's just about the only chassis I haven't tried (other than the sprung). What's the setup and the overall feel?

i never tried the first VIBE but i did use the second gen ones on my RPM skate and didn't have any problems with the shocks hitting the ground on turns.

as for the weight, yes they were heavy but that was back when bauer had their rocker chassis so it wasn't as if it was much worse then others at the time. in fact i thought the VIBE with only shocks in the back wheel was lighter then the rocker chassis. pointing out it's weight would be like me saying the pentium 1 was slow.

Im skating on the vanguard now and also skated on the he10000 and he950 frame also. I feel alot more stable on the old 72-80 hilo than the new vanguard.. To me its almost like your 2 feet off the ground.. It may just be me though.. I have a little tighter turns with the old hi lo which is expected, but also gained a little speed with the vanguard.. Once I adjust im sure ill like the vanguard just as much...

I skated in the Sensors for years. They are a HiLo with a 76mm front wheel. This was supposed to give you more of a push from a dead start with the larger footprint of the front wheel. Mine all had 1-2mm built-in rocker on the front wheel for turning or (ice feel). Labeda offered their frames straight or w/ a rocker. The axle on for the front wheel is set higher in the frame. In terms of quality nothing out there touches the Labeda frames. I still have like 5 sets and a Pro Extreme.

V-Form!!! Just kidding.

I have only tried Hi-Lo and straight. I just graduated from the straight and went to hi-lo to adjust to the more "up and down-rink" game we see in roller hockey tournaments. I play in a ice beer ice league where I skate on Cobra3000 blades.

I've been playing long enough to say that when playing on ice vs roller, it's like driving an automatic vs. manual transmission. Kinda different, but not that big of a deal.
