Itech helmets

Recommended Posts

Yes Mission has taken over that part of Itech's equipment sales. The new Intake is a great helmet and replaces the old Itech HC-100 which incidentally was also a great helmet. Definitely worth a look if your in the market for a new lid.

All of the Itech helmets in 07 are being rebranded as Missions.

VN lining. A lot of guys love it. I find it very comfortable as well but I get the EPP liner because it's supposed to be more protective. Only find the Bauer helmets are nicely cushioned though. More so than most other brands on the market.

The first one isn't an Intake, if that's what you are referring to.

^ When the intake first came out, for a while I thought it was just an Itech with Mission logos stuck on it.

Even the front looks the same to me - all they did was move a couple of vents around. I guess I give them credit for how successful the helmet has been after making just a few changes to the looks of an old helmet that wasn't very popular by comparison. I've never owned either one so I can't comment on whether the function, fit, or protectiveness are better; and to be fair, I've heard more good than bad.

But I'll never give them originality points for an aesthetic design that's pretty interchangeable with at least 5 other helmets on the market - to me, they all just look like stylized versions of the CCM HT2 shell that's been around for about a thousand years without anyone being able to improve on it - there may be better looking helmets, but not in the ones that just look like updated versions of that (Bauer 3/4000, HC100, Intake, the Easton thing). I know Mission already tried the original-helmet approach with the carbster, so I don't blame them for the unassuming looks of the intake, but it's not my cup of tea, and I'm not satisfied that they changed it enough from the old model looks-wise.

Oh geez...I rocked this back in '03 when I got back into skating and went cheapo on all my new gear. Back then it was Itech and was combo'd with an equally craptastical chrome RBE III cage. Total cost was $40 or so but this bucket and cage SUCKED.

The back plate is HC100 but the front was a new design. It has done well for them.

Do they still have the HC 100 stamp on the back plate?

They should have kept the HC100. Looked like a good lid for a good price. I'm sure people still would have bought them if they wanted EPP but didn' want to spend all that cash on the Intake. Talking about Itech, have you seen their new mask, the RBE VIII Titianium cage? When I saw the price, I was sure it was a typo. Then, I started reading. The link is below.

" Yes - we know. This cage is expensive. BUT - give this one a chance.".... "Also - consider that titanium is not subject to the corrosion you find on standard cages - so it's basically a lifetime investment. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes! "

Who the hell would pay 135 bucks on a cage!!! In American cash! I have a feeling this won't be a great seller. It's more expensive than pretty much any helmet, excluding the RBK 8k, and the NB 8500 at certain places. For a cage! Only the pros would buy that, but most of them don't even wear cages.

For a bit less weight, why pay 100 bucks more that you would pay for any normal cage....unless you'd buy a combo (visor/cage). The vision is probably just as bad as any other cage, but lighter. As I've noted, it's not worth 135$ American.

because, as they said, it's rust proof.

i still think its way pricey, but unless the cage got bent, you wouldnt have to buy a new one.

Even with all of the promotions that Itech ran, the HC100 didn't sell particularly well.

You don't go through that many cages over the years. When you're 18, many people change to a visor. When you're between the ages of 4 and 13, you don't go pay 135 dollars for a cage. When you're 14 and up, you'll just have the cage for 4 years. A regular cage would probably last that long.

I'm still saying, it's really expensive, and not worth it.

You're right, the parents do. And there's not stopping them if they believe it will save them money in the long run by not having to replace cages every season due to corrosion.

I have never had a cage that lasted 4 years, at most 1.5 seasons. Gear nowadays have to cater to not just those playing for recreational purposes and general house league but also those playing upper tier levels and beyond, to those individuals, the $135 is an investment.

Hockey is turning into golf. There are more players bragging about their equipment, and how much it costs, than bragging about their game. It's rather sad, actually.
