Vector 2.0 gloves... dangerous?

Recommended Posts

Tonight a girl on the team I coach(adult beginners) took a shot(not a hard shot) off her hand. It broke her finger, I guess it's only a fracture but still this just wasn't a hard shot. I saw it happen but I didn't really see how it hit her so I'm not sure whether it was a result of equipment that's not protective enough or just the puck hitting in a bad spot. I definitely don't want this to happen to her again but I'm unsure whether I should recommend a more protective glove for her or not. For those of you that have seen these or sell gloves; what are your opinions on them? Do you hear a lot of complaints about the protection of these gloves? I thank you for any help and I will let her know of any worries you guys might have.

I'd like to add that I grabbed her gloves for her and although I had my attention elsewhere I noticed they didn't feel very protective. I didn't look at them much but I have to wonder; even for beginner hockey are these gloves dangerous to use?

Are they split-fingered gloves?

I'm guessing that they are also low-density foam. Does she have small hands? Maybe she is using junior gloves.

yah that would be my guess as well because no way should that happen if wearing a pair of senior gloves

Well, sorta unrelated. Ive got a pair of Vapor XXX gloves and the padding and hard plastic fell out of both pinkies. Do you guys think they will be alright to wear in a non-slap shot beer league?

I wear them for roller and I really can't afford new gloves at this point.

Thanks

i would be alright for roller hockey but i would probally get a new pair for ice hockey. and did you try to send it back to bauer to get a new pair ?

maybe its because she used the vector 2.0 which is the bottom of the totem pole. You can't expect much from them. The only reason i would see people owning vector 2.0 gloves are kids learning how to skate. Seriously i'd go 4.0 or above

I wouldn't feel right doing it. I could probably get a replacement pair but the gloves were ment for ice, not concrete

she's really small, MAYBE 5'1... maybe. I think her gloves were 13" but that doesn't seem right because she's really tiny.

gloves seem too big. My wife is about 5' and real tiny as well. Her hands would be more for a size 11-12inch glove.

I've got some female team mates who are about 5"3 or 5"4, and they both wear 12inch easton 500's (pink ones). Those are pretty protective, even for inline.

I reckon for ice, you need to go at least something mid range. Save $20 on getting a cheaper pair, then spend a crap time recovering from injuries.

I would recommend Vector 4 gloves. I have them, they are definately protective enough for protective beginners league. And they are affordable now too (I have last years models)

Yet another reason why you don't go cheap as possible because in gear, like in life, you get what you pay for.

Could've just been one of those freak injuries, though. I once saw a girl break her gloved hand in slo pitch softball trying to catch a line drive.

I've got some 13" Vector Pro's ($150 senior glove new). Last week I tried to knock down a puck and took it off the pinky, that stung pretty good. But the gloves themselves are a good deal of protection.

Most of the cheaper or even just the low-mass gloves don't seem to have a great deal of protection on the sides.

Really, you get what you pay for with protective gear. I used to get the cheapest stuff I could and I would get injured. Broken thumb, broken elbow, strained ribs just to start. I started getting midrange gear a few seasons ago and I haven't had a scratch since. I just need to wing myself out of my minimal cooper shoulders before I take a puck to the chest.
