NHL unveiled new uniforms today

Recommended Posts

But man, those Eagles on the shoulders of the Caps jerseys are uggggly!

I like the Caps jersey. You can notice the outline of the Capital building in there, but it would be better if they had stars going down the arms.

Where's the capital building outline?

If you look at the bottom where the wings go up towards the head, it looks like an outline or forms, what seems to be the capital building.

Exactly right.

It's the outline of the bottom of the W.

I like the Blue Jacket's new jerseys, I think they look nice and clean. Well designed.

They are very sharp in person. They had them for sale in the shop and on display right inside the arena. The Caps one is nice in person as well - I saw one of their draftees with one today.

I'm unsure about the caps one but I think it will work. But I dread seeing ANY team with the numbers on the front, I think it will look as bad as having one off-color sleeve. *cough*Atlanta*cough*

Even the Bruins new jersey looks better than last year, I'm a big supporter of the neck ties.

When the caps picked yesterday it looked like the area under the arm was black, but it isn't in the pic above. What did the one you saw have?

Columbus did a good job, as did Boston. I think it was moronic that teams were putting their new draft pics in the old jerseys. The draft is the perfect forum to rebrand your franchise since you're picking players that are going to be wearing the colors in a few years. None of those guys is ever going to wear the old style jersey in a game. Yet another case of the NHL botching a marketing opportunity.

Hey, whatever it takes. Maybe with the new unis it will be easier to catch numbers when watching on tv, make it a little easier for folks to figure out who's who.

I have no problems with the unis and think some of them are quite attractive. If numbers help people follow the game more easily, great. However, I get NFL Sunday Ticket and watch all the Pats games. Do I know who number 93 on the Chiefs might be? No, but I know he just stuffed Maroney for a one-yard loss. I would imagine most NFL fans are similar. They may know the stars of each team -- maybe.... -- but they likely do not know the interior players, yet it doesn't stop them from enjoying the game. (Of course, I think others have raised a valid point elsewhere that the stoppage of play and analysis has a lot to do with football's popularity.)

Anyway, that said, my biggest problem is the article makes it seem like the NHL is nearly begging people to attend games because we have new uniforms. Maybe that's just the slant of the author, but it seemed like the NHL was behind the push. I agree it's smart for the NHL to introduce their new uniforms with a press release (or at the Draft, as Chadd suggested). But to follow up the announcements with a push that we'd now like you to attend the games to see these high tech jerseys smacks of desparation.

Don't remember...but all the teams wear the Rbk pants too? Remember from the weekend that the CBJ didn't have Rbk pants with the jerseys.

I like the navy pants with the whites like above for the Caps....wish the CBJ did that.

They they could pass for Team USA jerseys in my opinion, which is in itself not a bad thing.

What I don't like is that there isn't a NHL logo on the back of the jersey. I understand why they want the hit on the front of the jersey (because the NFL/NBA does it) but I've always liked it on the back. The replicas are going to look atrocious with the jock tag on the bottom front of the jersey.

they either have to wear RBK pants or RBK shells over their whatever brand pants... I believe.

What about guys with Endorsement deals, with like Easton, NBH, or Vaughn. That seems pretty Dirty Pool to me.

I think he means the tag sewn into the front of replica NBA/NFL jerseys:

That's just what I heard, I'm not 100% sure... but I believe the all-star game followed those "rules" as well.

One of those seam cutter things should do the trick if its what I think it is. What I used sort of looked like a sharp U, but one side was longer than the other.

There's an article in today's Boston Globe stating, "Today, the Boston Bruins will unveil the new Reebok uniform, the first NHL team to show off the sleek look with tighter-fitting jerseys and advanced moisture technology."

Hadn't other teams already presented this uniform? Anyway, the line that got me was the opening paragraph, "The National Hockey League is hoping a dose of high-tech design and a dollop of fashion will help revitalize a sport deemed too dull by many fans south of the Canadian border."

I understand this is a business, but articles like this make the NHL appear like a jilted lover who was way better than her ex, but wants him back anyway. Trap or no trap, I've take enough newbies to the game who fell in love with it, to know that anyone who's seen the game wouldn't call it a dull sport. Yet, an article like this makes the NHL smack of desparation. As if someone will turn to her husband and say, "Honey, I just read the NHL will have more fashionable uniforms next year. We really should catch a game -- maybe it will be a lot better than last time."

Seriously, have some self-respect that the game is a great game and let it grow at its own pace.

This article appeared on the front page of the business section the day it was published. The writer isn't even a beat writer for the Bruins/NHL, which is why it was in the business section. No love from the Globe there.

Oh man, it's like when they were using the same gloves that the Bruins, Avalanche, Flames and Pens used. Nuts.

Sure, you don't know who #93 on the Chiefs is but being a Pats fan you probably know every starter on both sides of the ball for New England. Analysis is a huge part of football because there are a lot of things that make a play which you can't catch the first time around.

Not true. Players can wear whatever brand pant they choose to wear.

they either have to wear RBK pants or RBK shells over their whatever brand pants... I believe.

Agreed.

look like the one90 clones made from older supremes.

I don't see a problem with it being where it is. I think it is smaller where it is than on the back.

The NHL logo or the jock tag? I can deal with the NHL logo on the front, but just so used to the ones on the back.

My main issue is with the jock tag on the replicas, but then again, I'll never own a replica.
