Video Game Console Question

Recommended Posts

Just to throw one more hat in the "My 360's okay" ring...I've had 2 red rings of death and both were fixed simply by unplugging the machine then letting it sit for about 2 minutes. I was scared and annoyed both times, but it's been fine afterward every time.

I don't play mine for hours on end, and I do think it's ridiculous that these machines freeze, break, etc., but it seems to me as they get closer and closer to resembling a full-fledged computer and farther from the NES type system I can't imagine they will be more reliable in the future.

hey guys, i'm having a little trouble with my 360, When i turn it on, the console starts up just fine, the game runs, etc. but the controller won't connect, the ring on the controller just keeps flashing over and over. I tried changing the batteries, popping the battery pack in and out, restarting the console, and nothing seems to work. Since the system is fairly new, i haven't ponied up to get another controller, so i just dont know if the problem is with the controler or the console. i was just wondering if anyone else has had this, or knows what i can do. Please tell me its the controler and not the console thats screwed up...

remember when you played the first mario brothers game, and after you died you'd get pissed and spike your controler on the ground like it was a football? you can't do that anymore........

Forgive me if you've already tried this, but there's a tiny button on the front of the 360 and a tiny one on the top of the controller next to the port between the shoulder buttons. If you push the one on the 360 the ring should start turning, then hold down the one on the controller and it should "relearn" what 360 to connect to. I usually have to do this when I go to my friend's and use my controller on his 360.

thanks for the replies guys, i'll try that small button. Krev, i don't have a cord but thanks anyway.

from what i hear from you guys, it seems as though the problem is with the controller, not the console which is good news for me because a controler is 40 bucks, a console is 400.

Im tired of everyone always knocking on 360 because it "breaks" so often. Has anyone ever had a problem with a BMW or Mercedes car? Yes. This is the same thing. Microsoft is too far into the game where they can't completely re-design the system. I think the newer ones with the HDMI ports have heat pipes to help move the heat away from the processor and BGA parts inside the machine. While a lot of things about MS are not good, I think the way they have handled faulty 360's is great.

People haven't had problems with PS3's yet because noone has pushed the system to its max. Gamers that use 360 are getting the most out of the system while the PS3 is probably only using 50-75% of its capabilities, so it probably isn't going to heat up as quickly.

I have had my 360 for almost a year now and no major problems or anything. I am sure something will happen but am satisfied with it so far. I just don't think PS3 will ever catch up in numbers to Xbox, the online play of xbox is far too refined for PS3 to catch up.

My 2 cents.....

Terrible comparison. If BMW or Mercedes had the failure rate of the 360, well, they wouldn't BE BMW or Mercedes.

MS has no choice but to do everything they can to make up for their system's flaws; there's just too much competition in the console gaming market to be able to afford not to. It saddens me that so many of us jump to defend something that's hard to call anything but a substandard product that was rushed to the market before it was ready for primetime.

isn't the failure rate of the 360's something like 30%? What the hell kind of product are you offering and charging a crap load for if 1 in 3 of them are breaking down?

People are still buying them, they have demolished PS3 in sales and if I'm not mistaken have or are soon to pass the Wii. As faulty as the product is the sales prove it to be dominant system.

It's easily because of the games. GoW and Halo 3 have been some of the best around, more GoW than Halo of course, so that's carrying the weight of being a crappy system. Assassin's Creed though...woof, bad call.

Does AC suck that bad? I've been on the fence for getting it.

I'm not a fan of it so far, but maybe it's better on the 360 but I can't see that being a big possibility. I'll just wait for my brother to get Mass Effect this week and play that.

i know a lot of people have discussed the xbox360 red rings of death problems, but i didnt see anyone say anything about this kind of swap. I bought my first 360 about 6 months after their release at a local SAMS CLUB store (www.samsclub.com to find one,if ya have one-they're great, buy food in bulk :D ) But anyway they have a 100% customer satisfaction guarentee. When my first 360 lit up abput 6 months later, i put it in the box and took it back to SAM's. They exchanged it right there for a brand new one! about 8 months later, that one had red rings, took it back... got a new one. About a month ago my THIRD 360 so far had the red death. I took it back, got a new one, and since the 360 had gone down in price... i got 50 bucks cash back! If you;re lookin to buy a system (especially the 360) buy it there! i dont need to send it into Microsoft, just take it back and exchange it! i think next time it drops in price ill take it back and swap for an elite setup!

Does anyone on here have a flashed xbox 360 to play backup copies of games? If so, I'd stay off xbox live for a while since pretty much everyone has been banned in the last 12 hours. So glad I didn't get mine flashed.

After playing some Mass Effect on my brother's I'm really glad I won't have to worry about buying into the hype on some of these games. Very Halo-ish to me with a little bit of the play from GoW.
