At the risk of sounding a little dramatic, what is at stake for me is whether or not I watch another NFL game. If Roger Goodell and the NFL somehow go 'easy' on Vick, letting him play NEXT season (08), I'm done with the NFL entirely. I won't except anything less than a 5 year ban. I'm hoping he's banned for life.

I'm all for second chances in life, however, I personally don't feel a felon should have the opportunity to make millions of dollars. More than that, it's just principle for myself, given the nature of these (alledged) felonies.

I think Vick is going to be looking at an indefinite ban by the NFL. I don't think they are going to go outright and ban him for life unless there are some serious gambling factors here that come to light, but at the same time I can't see them imposing an arbitrary number of years and a single year seems woefully inadequate.

I don't think he plays another game in the NFL. Nobody is going to take a chance on him when he isn't even that great of a QB in the first place.

Here's not going to be a pariah the rest of his life. It's all about $$$ and if there is a team struggling without a QB (or RB for that matter) Vick will find work somewhere.

Maybe not next year or the year after, but unless the League bans him for life...he'll be back.

[EDIT] I don't think it's right...I just think that's what will happen if Commish Roger doesn't throw him out for good.

There is talk on the local talk radio here that a lifetime ban is likely for 3 factors.

He had a meeting with Arthur Blank, owner of the falcons, and lied to him

He had 2 meetings with NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell, who implored him if there was any truth to the rumors, to get out ahead of them. He said there was no truth to them, so thats 2 senior NFL officials that were lied to.

The indictment includes gambling charges, that alone can trigger a lifetime ban from the NFL.

Also, the type of charge is deplorable, and will be a huge pr hit for anyone trying to sign him.

There is also some grapevine whisperings on the plea. It is said to include an assurance, that there will be no further dog fighting, gambling and conspiricy charges, or the new charge of racketeering, which would have a penalty up to 20 years.

However, there is talk about tax evasion charges, these may come at the state level, if the feds agree not to pursue any additional charges. Tax evasion has not been included (apparently) in any form of plea,so the feds could still go after him for that.

The money he made from wagers on his dogs was not taxed, so that might bring a whole new problem for him

The State of Virgina can still go after him on dog fighting charges, which is a felony in Virgina and carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in jail. Nothing in the plea agreement with federal prosecutors can protect him from prosecution at the state level.

I still don't see Goodell saying 'you are banned for life'...I think it will be 'indefinite' and they will play it by ear over the next 2-3 years.

Hello CFL!

No...new rule in the CFL. You aren't eligible to play in the League if you are serving a suspension from any other Pro League.

Call it the "Ricky Rule" if you want. They don't want the CFL to turn into a last chance league. Even if, for some, that is the reality of it.

Yeah, like Marbury has had a career good enough and a reputation good enough to go around calling Vick a "good human being". Hasn't he played for like 5 or 6 different teams because he's been a cancer on every team he's played on? Maybe he's Vick's new PR guy....he's just saying this because he also knows his future is done and he wants to market his shoes with Vick. I can see the slogan now: "When after a dogfight, don't get caught trying to evade the cops without your Starbury's on!"

I just saw him say it and there's no doubt Marbury's borderline retarded. Not for the statement, just how long it took him to say all that.

If nothing else, he's better at his job than Vick was.

Seeing comments coming out about this from all aspects makes it very hard to see it not becoming a race issue.

Big difference between taking a deer out, presumably with one shot as most do, then letting dogs fight to the death.

The end result is the same, is it not? In both instances the animal(s) are sacrificed for human enjoyment.

How is he right? to any extent?

we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals.

Right there.

Hunting is a very effective method of animal population control, not to mention a source of food for a large number of people and a pretty significant market for goods. I know a lot of people who hunt and I don't know any who do it for bloodlust.

The most telling part of Marbury's comments was the part where he implied that Vick should be able to do whatever he wants because he's a great athlete. It's all about the man keeping him down.

In that sense, yes, but that's a stretch no one's going to make. Hunters take crap all the time, but they aren't letting the animals suffer.

C'mon Chadd, the people you know arent doing to entirely for control or for food. Deep down alot of them want to be able to say they took down the biggest thing out there. Vick could say almost the same thing which is him wanting the baddest dog. I dont believe he did it for that reason, though.

I dont agree with either of them, im just playing devils advocate.

Vick should be punished to the fullest extent if all that was true.

...nevermind hanging or drowning the ones that don't cut it.

You're just about as wrong as you could possibly be. I know a few people who only manage to put meat on the table thanks to hunting and fishing. Without a couple deer a year, there wouldn't be steaks, chops or burgers on their grill. Where you live and where these people live are two different worlds.

Are there some yahoos that only want to kill? I'm sure there are, but I don't personally know any. In any case saying that all hunters are egomaniacs who just want to kill is asinine.

Every animal is going to die eventually, better to have a limited harvest and end up on a dinner plate than starving to death and rotting away in the woods.
