Monty22 835 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I used to be very hung up on stuff like this- blades had to be painted black, taped and waxed a certain way, etc. As I've gotten older I've gotten much less particular about tape/stick color preferences. I'm still partial to black, but the world won't stop if there's none in the bag.
strosedefence34 179 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 White tape on all my sticks blades and knobs, clear tape on the shin guards, and skates. I usally pee like 3 times before i hit the ice. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 I always religiously use black tape on the blade and white on the knob. It's not superstition but because white tape saves my gloves and black tape is easier to see what parts of the blade have wax and what doesn't. But the tape HAS to be Andover, I'll only use renfrew as the base layers in the knob.

Some players paint them black to make them less distracting. Others paint blades because the black may fool the goalies. Others paint because it looks cool. Jarick 5 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 In honor of this thread, I decided to do the following tonight:Replaced my black Sonic Tip cloth laces with waxed yellow Grafs (LOVE THEM!)Put my tongues outside of the shins rather than inside (not much difference as I don't lace up all the way)Taped my stick with wide white from heel over toe instead of regular white from mid to toeGot a hat trick, an assist, and three breakaways (I screwed up all three of them :( )I'll keep doing that, mainly because I like the new laces, used a lot less tape than normal, and tongues outside of shins just look cool :P
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 What kind of league are you playing in that you can blow three breakaways and STILL end-up with a hattie?
Jarick 5 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 What kind of league are you playing in that you can blow three breakaways and STILL end-up with a hattie?Pick up games...it's a complete crapshoot as to how good the players are or are not. I still busted my ass driving to the net for those goals though! Should have had four or five goals if I would have busted my ass a little harder though. This was back in the early 90's when wood sticks still ruled. I did the same thing with wood replacement blades in aluminum shafts, and stopped when I started using composites.
