With the anticipated debut of David Beckham's first MLS game, any soccer fans, or sports fans in general, going to watch this game? If so, is it enough to make you a fan of the MLS? I'm a soccer fan and I'm pretty excited for this game, even if Beckham only plays a few minutes.

I might watch the game versus Toronto FC on TV...or at least parts of it...but it doesn't make me want to go to a game...or follow the League at all.

I'm just going to watch it long enough to see the disappointment on the bandwagon Galaxy fans when Beckham is only in for 5 or so minutes. With the money he's making he needs to tape his ankle up and play the game.

But to the original question, yeah I'll watch it for a few but in no way will it make me want to follow the MLS. I am although a huge fan of the world soccer leagues over the pond.

I used to play soccer but even Mr. Beckham can't turn me on to watching the sorry soccer league we have here in the states called the MLS.

Yes...I hope he gets in the game.

I'm already a MLS fan, and Beckham just makes me more so. It's also nice that they play Chelsea tonight so there'll be more international following than just playing another MLS team for his debut. And I'm saying this while I wear my Real Madrid Backham jersey, waiting on my friends to come over and play some Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer while we wait for 8PM :P

So over rated and has been his whole career.

Great passer/free taker, but no heart, can't tackle, can't run at players like giggs did, takes huge chunks of the game off, so finds himself out of position a lot.

I'm somewhat a fan of the MLS, and a pretty big EPL and Bundesliga fan. I doubt he'll have any any lasting effect here, aside from the myriad of ads he's going (and is already) to be in. The season's already at least half over, and there's a whole winter of (american) football and hockey to forget all about him and the MLS, not to mention the World Series still to come.

I couldn't agree more. But he's got great marketing and will do a lot for MLS.

I guess every sport has them...you just described a few hockey players.

Like allsmokes said... good passer, good crosser, good freekick taker. Thats it, no heart, no tackles... Steven Gerrard at his worst would be better.

Having said that, he's smart when it comes to making money and advertising himself... his wife also knows how to 'advertise' herself

Hell, i cant believe i played that stupid game for 12 years. Now i can't stand soccer. I can watch it on tv, but then it has to be the Swedish national team that plays, and i have to be so drunk that i can't remember the game afterwards anyway

He's not the best player in the world. But he is the most recognized player in the world, and perhaps the most recognized athlete outside of North America. He has the potential to do tremendous things for the MLS, but unfortunatly because of the majority of American's views on soccer I don't think it will be as huge as it potentially could be.

I'm not going to lie, I was impressed with how he played. The stadium went dead silent when he went down though.

Oh, and by the way. Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria in the same box? Dammmnnnnn

Wouldnt quite say he has no heart. Enduring what hes endured over the years with the 98 WC and then this past season with Madrid. It could have been easy for him to pack it in. Him signing with LA is more about marketing the game here stateside than anythign else.

That's what I was gonna mention...But I can definitely see him being an outstanding player over here despite his inadequacies since the level of play here is kinda crappy. I mean, for those who watched tonight, Chelsea could have easily made it like 5-0 instead of 1-0.

So for the people who vote 'no' could you explain why? I'm just curious.

It just isn't exciting for me, the talent level isn't there and it just feels like there's zero atmosphere at MLS games - feels like it's not even pro. A distant cousin of mine played MLS.

Like most soccer, there isn't enough time actually attacking for me. More scoring chances come off of set pieces than from actual game action and I really don't want to wait 15-20 minutes between scoring opportunities.

I kinda feel bad for Soccer goalies. They get what, 5-6 shots a game...if they don't save them ALL they are the goat.
