And the excuses...just...keep...coming...

Yahoo Sports -

New York Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr is having lumber problems. According to the New York Daily News, Jagr is getting used to a new set of sticks because Reebok doesn't make his preferred model anymore. He doesn't like the grip on the new model.

"Look at this, just touch the stick, how slippery it is. How am I supposed to shoot?" Jagr said. "I don't get it," he said. "I play with the same sticks for 20 years and I have to change it because they stopped making it. I've got no choice. I have to adjust."

Well, there is a difference between sticks.

Henrik does it again for the Rangers. Prucha's move was nasty.

Is Valliquet ever going to get a start? There's a back-to-back coming up, right?

Renney has been quoted as saying that they will continue to use Hank until they get into a more firm position point-wise. I also keep seeing blips on the radar about acquiring a more veteran back-up.

DarkStar - C'mon, you can't be serious about the stick thing? I hope that's sarcasm. I don't care if he was using Spezza's stick, he should still be able to produce. What is everyone on this board a Jagr Apologist?

I was happy with the overall team effort. They will have to start putting up more than 2 goals a game if they are going to beat better equipped transitional teams like Ottawa, Carolina, and many of the teams in the West they will play this year.

And what is Hank thinking when he played that puck right into Toots?!?! Even a Dman knows not to clear the puck up the middle, with the exception of Malik. He's a terrible puck-handling goalie and needs to stay in the net. I've said it before, I'll continue to say it.

I'm not a pro but even I can feel a difference between OPS. If you can't, you are amazing. That sentence was sarcasm.

The team effort was fair. The Devils played the better team game. The shootout and Henrik stole the extra point and win for the Rangers.

Don't count on Renney resting Lunqvist any time soon. He's pretty much the reason he still has a job. If it wasn't for henrik they'd have next to no points so far, and Renney would have to go. When I say HAVE to go, I am in no way saying I support the sacking of coaches because his players arent performing, but media and fans would demand change, it would most likely be the first step. Seems to have helped Atlanta.

Oh, I know people can feel the difference with grip, shape, weight, etc...but is it really enough to throw your game off that much?

I know you were being sarcastic, but I don't think Jags was. He was just complaining, again. Jeez, he complains more than I do!

I don't like to be trite (Ok, I do), but Jagr yesterday- Enough said. The line dominated every shift.

As far as the team, I said it before that game 10-20 would be a turning point in terms of starting to gel and I think we are starting to see it. Dubi looked unreal with Jagr and they like playing together. The defense (Team and even individuals) is great so far and Lundqvist is God.

23 GA is 1st in the NHL and insane, and that stat counts more than goals scored right now. The chemistry will continue to take time, but it will come. We are starting to see it now.

Just when Jagr had the excuse to miss his first game in the regular season since the lockout(that is a 178 game streak) with a hamstring tweak, Jagr goes out and scores the winning goal, sets up the insurance goal, and bangs one off the iron in the last few minutes. Great game, Captain.

Blueshirt Bulletin

"If he really thinks he can't contribute," Tom Renney said he told Jagr, "I would rather have someone else out there that might be able to. He told me, 'Tommy I have to go.' I said, 'Great!' After a little bit of adjusting this morning with [trainer] Jim [Ramsey], he said it felt much better. After the warm-up, he said, 'Tommy, I have to go.'" And away he went. After the game, Jagr and his new center Brandon Dubinsky created a mutual admiration society across the locker room. The veteran Jagr praised the surprising rookie center's talent, while the young Dubinsky had glowing words about how open and communicative the future Hall of Famer has been with him.

"The kid is great, the kid is good," Jagr said. "Just wait. I'm not gonna guarantee we're gonna score every game three goals, but the kid is great -- I love playing with him. He's more talented than a lot of people thought he is. They know he's talented, but he showed a lot -- he's strong on the puck, not afraid to go to the net, good moves one on one." Dubinsky said of Jagr, "He was really communicating with me. I don't think a lot of people know that about him, how much he communicates with linemates and teammates. With me, it's a constant conversation even since I was put on his line. Tonight I felt more comfortable with him. I adjusted, did some other stuff to complement him better. In turn, we played better. I had chances, right?"

Dubinsky does not see in Jagr an unapproachable superstar who doesn't have time for rookies. Quite the contrary. Last season Jagr developed an unexpected relationship with Sean Avery, this season he has bonded with Dubinsky. "I was on him a little bit this morning that he didn't have a choice to play tonight," the young center said of his new right winger. "He's a competitor. He's gonna play through stuff. In the playoffs he was trying to play through that shoulder. He's unbelievable. He comes off kind of quiet, but he's really got a sense of humor, he cares about each and every one us. Early in the season he was the one who was hardest on himself about how things were going."

Theo/DarkStar...are you guys tryinnnnnng to lure me in here? Well, I'm not one to back down so...

1st of all, I'm not taking anything away from Team defense. It speaks for itself. Everyone, EVERYONE, is buying into the system and Henrik has been fantastic between the pipes. They are giving themselves a chance to win everynight with their defensive efforts.

But (there's always one, isn't there), they cannot expect to win every game 2-0, 2-1, etc. They are eventually going to have to play teams that can score goals and there will be games that will go back and forth. They have not showed me, to this point, that they can compete when the game gets like that. I'm not saying they won't, but they haven't yet.

They haven't played any amazing teams during this homestand, what have they proven? That have played basically .500 teams or worse until last night. What's that say? They can beat teams worse than them? They should be doing that. Start winning games where they are scoring more than 2 or 3 goals a game, and my complaining will stop.

They went out and spent something like 80 million bucks to get guys that can help score goals. The GA of 23 is a great stat, but not when you have spent 80 mil to score goals! I understand there are a couple of injuries, but you have Gomer and Drury playing the 2nd and 3rd line! You got Gomer to play with Jags and they go together about as well as me and Mack in a closed door meeting. The time will come when the expectations will have to be met, and Gomer's assist totals will have to be better than or 2 or 3 in 13 games played. Someone, other than a kid like Dubinsky, will have to play with Jagr and start putting up numbers. Serious numbers. Dubi works, but if he's a number 1 guy, then he will have to produce too.

As for my boy, Jags, I refuse to drink Jagr-Ade, yet. I stand by my statement that I'll drink it when I see the hardware. I like hearing that he's going out and playing with an injury. But I talk from the past, the facts, that he mopes and complains and when things don't go well, he sucks. Things are ok now, they are winning. Wait till the next schneid hits and he goes back into the Ol' Jagr we all know and I hate.

DarkStar - I think I'm gonna have to come into the shop soon!

So do you mean this kind of hardware:

1994-95 Art Ross Trophy

1997-98 Art Ross Trophy

1998-99 Art Ross Trophy

1998-99 Hart Memorial Trophy

1998-99 Lester B. Pearson Trophy

1999-00 Art Ross Trophy

1999-00 Lester B. Pearson Trophy

2000-01 Art Ross Trophy

...or the two rings he's got?

:P

Be thankful you have a team that has to worry about scoring goals rather than stopping them, the opposite is much worse...and as a Leaf fan I am fairly qualified to comment on such things, haha.

I know he was there for a short period but, this was on ESPN..

NHL veteran Kasparaitis headed back to Russian Super League

NEW YORK -- Veteran defenseman Darius Kasparaitis is leaving the American Hockey League to join SKA St. Petersburg of the Russian Super League.

The 35-year-old Kasparaitis played four games this season with the New York Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford, Conn., and was loaned by the Rangers on Saturday to St. Petersburg.

Last season, Kasparaitis got into only 24 regular-season games with New York after a slow recovery from a pair of offseason operations. He spent 12 games at Hartford.

He tried again this year to make the Rangers' opening night roster, but was again sent to Hartford. Kasparaitis had one goal in his brief AHL stint this season.

The hard-hitting, 210-pound defenseman has played in 863 NHL regular-season games with the Rangers, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh and Colorado. He posted 27 goals, 136 assists and 1,379 penalty minutes.

Kasparaitis, a native of Lithuania, started his professional career at 16 with Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Super League. He got back into the league during the 2004-05 NHL lockout with Ak Bars Kazan.

Wow, Rangers fail to score more than two goals, in a back-and-forth game, against a team that's better than .500.

Damn, it hurts to be right. Who am I, Nostrdamus?

No, I mean OUR hardware. I know what he's done and what he's capable of. But I'm not a Penguins fan so I could care less what he brought to them.

No, you are turning into a whiny bitch, that I am ready to say is a typical New York sports fan, never f'n satisfied!

From the last 10 minutes I saw(sorry, but I cannot glue my ass to the TV to watch every minute of the game), the Isles brought the game to the Rangers. They controlled play in the Ranger zone and only had minor breakdowns, nothing major, in their end in front of DiPietro. This being the Rangers third game in four nights offers the perfect excuse but excuses are for losers, right?

So, the Rangers lost, they did not score 3 goals, and they will play another game on Thursday against the Penguins. Life goes on........

What's next Nosy?

Nosy,

I guess you would have ragged on Messier for three years until he won the Cup for you, too, right? I can just imagine it then, "Messier sucks, he's so over-rated, its all about him, he is nothing without Anderson and Gretzky and Coffey, he's just a dirty goon, he never delivers in the clutch, he hasn't won squat in the three years he has been on the Rangers. I'm not drinking any Messierkool-aid." Wait, you were still riding a tri-cycle then or was it Big Wheels?

Just bustin' you, big guy!!

DarkStar, you know me way to well to compare Jags to Messier with me. Jags can't shine Moose's shoes.

Well, at least we don't have to start planning now for Jagr to hang around until he's 43 demanding power play ice time!

Did you pack Messier's Kleenex for Hall of Fame week-end coming up?

Are you kidding me??? I'm taking tomorrow off just to watch Messier Day on MSG and will be doing everything to avoid FSNY and their pitiful excuse of a tribute day to that High Hitting Dbag Scott Stevens.

There is only one Theodamus around these parts ;)

Anyways, right? Hardly. You cannot commit such a statement until April. But I can say you have been wrong about Jagr so far since we are talking about a 3 year tenure here thus far.

At least we agree on Stevens though
