That is where I disagree, 96.

I don't think Jagr is half assing it. I think now more than ever his age is catching up with him and losing that 3rd piece in Nylander killed his actual on ice game since they knew each other so well. He's been playing with a rookie as a center and while I think it is a good learning experience for Dubi, you can't expect the line or Jagr to be as good as last year, even when he was injured. Straka-Jagr-Nylander was probably the most productive line in hockey consistantly the first two years past the lockout- or close to.

As far as the C issue, it doesn't matter. Jagr makes a fine captain, but what makes it a null issue is Jagr and Shanny talk a great deal after games and such about what is going wrong and Shanny relays it afterwards to the team. Or I will rephrase- Having Jagr as the captain is not the reason we are any better or worst off than we are right now.

I think what you see is what you get with Jagr...He may have a dominant game which he has had about 5 this season and then a few quiet ones. It is almost the end of his career, but he will pick it up for the playoffs.

So, basically what you're saying is that even though Jags wears the C, he really "shares" the power with Shanny because of their behind-the-scenes post-game talks?

I guess it really doesn't matter who wears the C out there. But if I want someone representing the team on and off the ice, if I want someone who's gonna go talk to refs, who's gonna champion my team's cause on the ice, it wouldn't be Jags. He doesn't speak English well (I think by choice) and he doesn't seem to "want" the role. With that said, Shanny would be my guy. As far as half-assing and effort, you and Mack are right; he's always been like that. But there's much more that goes into being a captain then scoring goals, and effort or lack thereof on the ice. It's the whole package, and I question that in Jags. But, I don't see what goes on behind closed doors...

Today's game is going to be a test. We're slipping, the Devs are playing great hockey. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Defence wins. Again. What a novel idea.

Thank you Girardi to Tyutin to Gomez to Shanahan.

Oh, you mean the same Girardi and Tyutin that both turned over the puck on the same play to give Mad Dog Madden a breakaway? You mean those guys?

The goal was well executed. At the beginning of second, I thought to myself that Shanny was going to score. Not because he was playing well, but because Gomer was. I nailed that one. I did think the Jagr line was going to score though. Jags skated and played well, the whole game.

It could have gone either way, but it's a good win against a hot team. I wonder who Henry is going to buy the wine for after that shutout?

I guess you never made a bad play in your roller hockey game only to come back and be part of the winning goal in overtime. As Emily Litella would say, "Oh that's very different, never mind."

*Not half assing it as a NYR, 96. I never said or implied that. When I say what you see is what you get- I am saying that the only thing stopping him from being better would be mental, not from not skating or playing hard

I just thought it was funny that they both made a huge mistake on the same play causing a breakaway.

Who me? I've never made a mistake in my life. At least not as a professional ice hockey player playing for the Rangers. Can't say the same for my guys Toots and Girardi. Haha.

96,

I guess you would complain if Gretzky lost a face-off during 81-82 when he had 212 points on only 92 goals and 120 assists. The Oilers didn't win the Cup that year so I'm sure you would have whined if you were an Oilers fan. Then again, in 85-86 when Gretzky had a turn-over in the neutral zone, his 215 points on a measly 52 goals aided by 163 phantom second assists might not have been enough to keep you happy either. Once again, the Oilers didn't win the Cup. Didn't somebody say something yesterday about how easy it is to win with the most talent, no matter who the coach is? "Oh, that's very different. Never mind."

96,

You should really hang out at EastCoastSportsFans.com. They have plenty of pissed off Rangers fans there. It is totally your kind of crowd.

Toots and Girardi have been pretty darn good for us this year, that you can agree with, no?

Yes, they've done pretty well back there. Girardi has had a couple YOWZA moments the last few weeks, but other than that, I've been happy with that combo.

Comparing Toots/Girardi to Gretz, c'mon DS, that's a stretch, even for you. No comparison. Any mistake Gretz made would be immediately nullified by the fact that he could go out and get a goal right back, or 2. Toots and Girardi don't have that capability.

As you can see in my response to Theo, I've been happy with them and was just finding humor with that one play.

You guys better be nice to me. I happen to have the ability to get a Leetch Ticket from my brother who would rather go skiing in Utah than see Leetch retire. I might feel motivated to ask a fellow MSHer to come with. And an advisory - I will be as drunk that night as Leetch himself the night he "slipped on ice" getting out of a cab.

Jeezma-ninney, no way am I comparing 99 to anybody ever!

The Leetch ceremony will be over in 5 minutes. Norm will want to get back to the bar.

I don't think Leetchie can stand up for more than 5 minutes at one time.

If there's going to be some sorta MSH lottery for that ticket throw my name in the hat please. I'd gladly fly to NYC to attend that game. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be a Rangers fan—or a lousy defenseman. Hell, I bet I'm the only one that has a Leetch authentic 3rd.

Haha, tell the truth guys, you just want to go drinking before the game, admit it.

Well, it's still my bro's. His wife hates hockey, so she's out. I'm gonna try and nail down the deal with him. If I can get my hands on it, I'll see if I can hook up an MSHer.

I only flipped over between WEC fights but was the ice really that bad that it caused both announcers go on for about 5mins after Shanny fell?

I dunno if the ice was that bad but I saw a few players go down for seemingly no reason throughout the game. I suppose that could have had something to do with it. The caps announcers never mentioned it though and I watched that broadcast since it was in HD.

What a game, holy shit. Mike Green had a hell of a game

I was in the shop and only heard the game on radio. Rangers color guy Dave Maloney was loving Mike Green's game.

Joe M made an asshat of himself last night in a few ways and those excuses was one of them. Shanny fell (and I love the guy) on his own because Dru's pass was brutal and way too far behind him. It was all on the pass and how Shanny tried to save it from going out, not the ice.

Don't get me wrong, the ice was bad but on that specific play it wasn't so much the ice.

The ice at the verizon center is without doubt the worst in the league. To the point that Captain Chris Clark has said that he feels it is responsible for a number of the caps players groin injuries this season, his own included (he has now been downgraded from day to day, to week to week).

Ice aside, it was really one of the best games I've seen in a long time. Rangers go 2 up, caps pull back and tie it, Ovechkin redirects a green shot early in the third, rangers pull it back, caps go 4-3 up, shannahan ties it. Then the last 3 minutes of the game were just played at a ballbreaking speed.

If you have not seen it, Lundqvist makes a save on a dave steckel shot late in the third with the scores tied at 4 that is just out of this world, there is no way that shouldn't have been a goal, check out the highlights somewhere to see it.

And the Brashear/Orr fight, if you see the replay on that, it's fairly even, perhaps even Orr winning, then brashear connects to the side of his head, and you can see Orr get stunned, couple more shots and he is down.

Brashear played a hell of a game last night, 2 assists, fight, I was rooting for the goal for him.

Mike Green definately player of the game though, smart defensive plays, great offensive instincts.

Brashy played a great game, you are right. I was very impressed with Green too, what moves and a smart player as well. Great game on your end

Lundqvist with one of the saves of the year but he had a subpar game overall. The Ovy shot to the jewels hurt him early on.

It was a great game if you like sloppy hockey from two teams, are a fan of a Caps (they ultimately won), or could care less about seeing games reasonably well officiated. To be fair the latter seems to be inconsistent league wide as what was commonly a hooking/holding/slashing penalty is often being ignored now.

I was highly unimpressed with Brash throwing two more punches to Orr while he was going down. I seen a lot of Orr's fights including a few where he has absolutely pounded guys and never seen him do that once. Anyway... great photo of the tilt.

Perhaps Orr should stop challenging Brash, he has had his number on the past several occasions. I am a caps fan, but I think even objective fans who saw that would say it was a good game. There was a lot of end to end stuff, good hits, some real nice plays.

Of course, if you are a rangers fan, you may take your cue from the captain Jagr, who has already started complaining, in todays daily news

And while Renney was addressing reporters, a fed-up Jaromir Jagr and assistant coach Perry Pearn were engaging in a sometimes-heated strategy discussion outside the dressing room. That was after Jagr came to the bench at the end of a shift with 4:10 left in regulation, screamed at struggling defenseman Michal Rozsival for not getting the puck to him early enough and then slumped on the corner of the bench until called to take the first shift of overtime.

"They want me to skate and I'm skating," Jagr said. "They want me to come back, so give me the puck. That's why I was mad."

Jay brings up a good point in that the officials were dreadful. So many missed calls, seemingly against the Rangers, not to sound biased!

There was one that Shanny drew that was so obvious yet they missed it
