Jersey's w/ Edge cut

Recommended Posts

Assuming the NHL sticks with the Edge jerseys long term (which I assume they will)...how long will do you think it be until we see these jersey cuts become the norm for practice and team jerseys all the way down to atoms, mites?

I would think 10 years plus, think how long some associations keep there novice and atom jersey, it would cost to much money to get them right away

#1. I don't see the current edge jerseys lasting long.

#2. I expect revisions during this season. Any new product will have unforseen problems.

I think the edge jerseys will stay, but you might see the templates go. The technology of the jersey is the positive aspect of it.

Funny, I'd say the opposite. I'm betting designs stay and the jerseys go.

I'm not buying the jersey will make you faster. The amount of drag created at that speed by the old style loose fitting jersey has to be next to nothing.

I have never seen a house league team that wasn't on a budget. These jerseys are way more expensive. I don't care how many "benefits" they have, most teams will keep it as cheap as possible.

They could make your standard practice jerseys in this cut for the same price as current ones.

If that take the current type of practice jersey and give it the same cut then its not going to work. The tight fight only works because of the stretchy fabric and most players have been complaining that they don't stretch enough already. The normal fabric doesn't have the same attributes that the new ones do, the stretchiness and water repeling, and that is why the new ones cost so much more.

#1. I hope you're right

#2. Like ripping every time someone gets into a fight?

Let's get Rob Ray back on the ice so he can go "hulkster" and rip off his own jersey before a fight.

Exactly. I don't believe many equipment managers will be able to stock that many replacement jerseys for a road trip. They're pressed for time as it is. Maybe they'll have backup replicas.

But they're OH SO LIGHTER...which means they can carry more of them on the road. :)

These jerseys may or may not go the way of the Cooperall in the NHL, but I don't see them infiltrating the youth ranks, especially at the younger levels. Cost is the most prohibitive factor, but fit would be right behind. It's tough enough to fit a kid with stock sizes in current jersey styles, if you go with a tighter fit you'll have to take into account the tiny kid, the tall-skinny kid, short-stocky, fat... too many variables.

Personally I hope these jerseys don't last too long... can you imagine Gretzky or McCarty in a tight-fitting jersey? Part of a hockey jersey's attraction is the way it hangs just a little loose.

I would definitely get a set of practice jerseys with the edge cut, especially the socks. I want to see what it's like for myself. However, I don't really like wearing NHL jerseys when I play, but that's just personal preference.

It's hard to expect a similar cut to come out from the other companies like AK too because if they just use the regular air knit material you will just end up with a jersey that is too tight and immobile.

that would be amusing though!

Well maybe they'll come up with a compromise. Tougher materials, a bit looser fit, but still not baggy and heavy like the old ones.

Hockey jerseys weren't "heavy" before the change to Edge. They haven't been heavy since the days of wool sweaters.

I didn't want to start another EDGE thread...

I saw this on ebay...

...the seller said it is the jersey that retails for $150.00 (replica). Has anyone else seen a rep jersey with a fight strap?

That looks real to me.

I know...but I've never seen a replica jersey with a fight strap....Buyer Beware...I'm just checking.

I think a lot of NHL teams are using the Edge cut with old materials now, so it works.
