qmechanic 17 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 As a student, I get free tickets to Yale hockey games. I like watching college games because I'm still learning the game and it's much easier to watch when the pace is slower. Also, the rink is across from my office and the games are free! RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Does UNH play on a rink larger than NHL size? Their game is on Sportsnet and the surface looks HUGE.
greech 4 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Does UNH play on a rink larger than NHL size? Their game is on Sportsnet and the surface looks HUGE.Yeah, UNH has a large surface. If you can ever catch a Gophers game, now that is a big surface.
shooter27 116 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Yes, the rinks at UNH and Minnesota are Olympic size, 200' x 100'. NHL sized rinks are 200' x 85'.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 I thought maybe it was an illusion, because the guys are as big as NHLers...but when I looked at their roster...they've got lots of 6+/200+ guys...so that wasn't the case.Thanks.

Duster 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 I'm not really into watching college hockey but I've been to a few games. I've seen Wayne State, Michigan State, and Eastern Michigan University all play. I've only seen them because of free tickets or the fact that my brother plays for EMU.
DoubleT96 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 Sitting in the Student Section at Yost at any Michigan game is one of the funnest sporting experiences ever!!!!! Hands down!!!!! All the chants they have are effing hilarious!!!! I love when the Press Box phone rings and the entire crowd on cue chants “Hey, <insert goalie name here>. Phone call. It’s your mom. She says — you SUCK!”
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 No one goes to Michigan Tech games right now. They suck so bad, the tickets are free and no one will walk up the hill to go anymore. It's sad really.Packed games 2 years ago were amazing, now it's pathetic.

The Gophers have a few guys that should still be in HS or the USHL right now. Friggin lucrative NHL contracts..
Invert 13 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 I try to make it out to a couple of of Robert Morris games every year. Especially the collegiate hockey showcase at Mellon Arena. It is cool seeing a team emerge from nothing to a pretty good team.
RecLeagueHero 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 When I lived in Denver I used to go to DU's games on a regular basis, which were always a lot of fun. I'd certainly go to college games if there was anything up here above club hockey. I do to T-Birds, Slivertips, and Giants games pretty often.
greyraven8 9 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Go to the local university hockey games a couple times a year.Lakehead Thunderwolves (in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada).Very popular locally - usually get a few thousand people out; tickets are reasonable $12 adults & $6 for L.U. students. They are hosting the C.I.S. (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) cup this year (end of March) and next year. I won't be going since you have to buy tickets in a package for all the games; have neither the time nor the money for that.Pretty entertaining to watch. Don't have any higher level locally and closest would be the Manitoba Moose (AHL) in Winnipeg or the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis (NHL). Both are a 7+ hours drive away. Ahriman 1 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 I never missed a single badgers home game in 5 years. I camped outside in line (no tent, no couch, etc) for a total of around 120 hours myself for my tickets in small groups, last two years it was just two of us. I had seats on the glass my last year finally and never once had upper deck seating and watched the national championship season a few years ago now.

doogie24 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Im a semi-regular for "College Hockey at the Joe"... I have been going to the UofM vs MSU game at Joe Louis Arena for the past 5 or 6 years. Its pretty fun, the Joe usually gets to about 50% or more capacity, and they bring the bands of course. I Usually go because compared to a Wings game, the tickets are pretty cheap. Ive sat in the first few rows for 25 bucks, and 15 gets you a decent seat in the upper bowl. Seeing games like that make me want to drive up to Yost to watch a home game for Michigan, I have never been yet.

I've been to both and like you said, the Joe is 50% filled. The atmosphere in not even close.
sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 Anybody been watching the NCAA tourney? I'm a Miami alum so I was pretty pumped about that win over Denver. Considering we're rolling with eight freshman this year, Miami could be very dangerous for the next few seasons.UNH just tied North Dakota w/ .3 seconds left on the clock! That was badass.
