Hartley Fired

After six straight losses to open the season, the Atlanta Thrashers have fired head coach Bob Hartley. Sources tell TSN that general manager Don Wadell will take over behind the bench on an interim basis until a replacement can be hired.

With all six losses coming in regulation, the Thrashers have yet to register a point this season and sit dead last in the overall standings. They are also 30th in the league in goals scored with nine and trail only the Kings and Maple Leafs in goals against 27.

Waddel should also be held accountable. They lost Tkachuk and Sutton in free agency and Hossa to injury. Their big additions were Klee and White?

This is dumb. Don Waddell should have been fired long before hartley. They should have expected such a start with the way Waddel has built this franchise. Outside of the top 2 picks, he cannot draft to save his life. Boris Valabik? please. He is a horrible gm that should have been fired two seasons ago.

No surprise here though I tend to agree Hartley isn't really the problem. They look like they've phoned it in though so maybe now the team will win a game or two over the next couple of weeks. I just hope it doesn't start tomorrow. Either way, whoever hires Hartley will have a good coach.

He was supposed to go after the playoffs when they got swept by the Rangers. They were shaky down the stretch, got swept in the playoffs and are now off to an O-fer start. He had to go...

Waddell deserved the boot far more than Hartley. No first line center, no real second line center and every decent player that had a shot at free agency has left. Waddell is trying to save his ass by blaming it on Hartley. Their younger players look pretty good and they have a chance to do something this season if they can land a real number one center.

Well Kozlov turned down the Stars to stay. He might be regretting that now.

They don't let their guys play much offense down in Dallas, that's no surprise.

The question is where does Bob end up? In Toronto trying to fix the defensive problem or working for his old buddy in Florida?

Bigger question, who replaces him in the ATL? During the game, Sam and Joe said Waddell has taken calls from 30 different agents, coaches in Europe and has some Assistant Coaches in mind but might be tied up contractually.

The Montreal board (well, some of it) is calling for Guy's head. Practically chanting "Hartley...Hartley...Hartley"!

I hope not though. I still have hope for the Habs under Carbo.

Quinn was the name I heard but he could quickly supplant Waddell as the GM too so I don't think Don wants to do that.

True. But Dallas looks more like a playoff team Than Atlanta.

Are GM's just scared that Quinn is going to want a dual role? Or does he keep turning them down? Or, is he just not doing good during interview processes? I doubt it's the latter but how long has it been since Quinn has been fired? and how many coaches have been canned since? Please...either Waddell is scared of Quinn coming in and upstaging him or Quinn just does not want to coach anymore.

it's hard to coach a good team, when the players aren't there.

It's hard to get a good team together when no one is in charge, there's a self imposed salary cap, and no one wants to play for you.

Hartley lost control of the team the way he did in Colorado. He plays a lot of head games, and veteran players simply don't want to play for him. He's a helluva coach, though.

Don W needs to go next. He has single-handedly held this franchise back by dubious drafts and terrible trades.

The Thrashers are my favorite team, and I'll root for them regardless of their ranking, but this team has absolutely no defense this year. This differs from the past few sessions when they just had terrible d.

Bob said his philosophy was to get everything out of his players before he got fired. He does everything, positively or negatively, that he can to motivate his players and wring every last bit out of them. He knows that won't make him popular, but being popular with players and losing games doesn't make for a secure job either.
