Which Skates should I buy?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I need some help picking out skates and figured this would be the place to ask seeing as I dont trust anyone who gets paid on what they sell me.

I play twice a week during the winter and once a week during the summer. All my life Ive used my brothers hand my down tacks or supremes and then I went for a new skate 3-4 yrs ago. Ive always loved my pre-broken in tacks and supremes but went for Eastons and have hated them ever since. They took forever to break in because I wasnt playing much or because they were stiff as hell, dunno which one but I just hate them. Now the top of the boot is falling apart and I think I need new ones.

I've got a wide and fairly flat foot and would rather not go over $300, what do you suggest?

Can you suggest a Toronto area store to buy them? I know all the stores but dunno which has the best skate prices.

If u can answer this: how long do u think itll take to break in if I only wear them once a week? (use my old eastons for games)

Thanks guys!

We (as in all of us) do not know what your feet looks like and since everyones different we really can't help you. References can be pointed out and suggestions but it is the best if you go and try every pair you like in your price range that suits you until you found that perfect skate for you.

Just as shifter said, go to a LHS and try on all the skates that are in your price range. Skates, like most equipment, is all about PP. All we can do to help your selection is give you our expiernces, opinions, thoughts, concerns, etc.

Good luck!

Mike

i've never found new skates to be comfortable so trying them on doesnt really work for me. the shape of my feet make breaking in new skates that much worse and im trying to alleviate the pain if only a little bit. growing up wearing skate shoes have left me with an awkwardly flat, wide foot. I was hoping someone with a similar shape could help me out with their suggestions so i can save some time looking or maybe money.

I am not good at giving advice based on foot shape, but if your looking for a $300 skate in toronto, go onto ebay and search store: goalie heaven, they have tons of new prostock grafs for $300, you can pick them up.

I just bought a pair.

I wear skate shoes, I think I have some flat wide feet. I have worn Missions (when i played roller) and on ice I have worn bauer supremes and graf. Right now i'm currently skating in graf 301's size wide they seem to fit pretty well. I hear the spreme 70's are fairly wide based off the 8090's perhaps? someone here will correct me if I'm wrong for sure. The truth of the matter is like everyone says go try them on. CCM / RBK they are the same company are pretty wide at least I know CCM's are.

I've never had a problem with anyone at my LHS pressuring me into buying a top of the line product.

what a useful contribution.

i agree with the majority on this one, i aswell have duck feet, and i fit into rbk skates, worth a shot to try on some of thoes, if your really lucky you can find a pair of 8k non pumps for clost to 200

just go try on everything in your price range. You will know when the skate is right one for you. but if i were you id start at rbk, ccm, or graf. cause i have feet that from how you describe them are very similar to yours.

try eastons and the flexlites, then try the supremes(not-one90) and RBKs. You will hopefully find something in those four skates... But the shop employee at your LHS will be able to help more than any of us can because we can't see your feet.
