Itech Fantom cage

Recommended Posts

I've been using it for a few months now on my RBK helmet. Switched from a chrome CCM cage. I like it a lot better. The wires are thin and the white inside does seem to improve vision. Comfortable chin cup also. No signs of any rust/deterioration. Overall I think it's a great cage and it's relatively low-priced.

Great cage i2 technology works, no contrast against boards when looking down the rink. Stainless steel thus no rusting.

Got it with an Intake helmet pre assembled. Have the I2 version. No complaints coming from a former 480 user.

is it alot better tahn the 8500 cage, because wow, that oval cage is unreal

Stainless steel rusts.

It's a bit different than the 8500 cage shape-wise. It's stainless steel and due to the grade of steel used, they can go very thin on the bars. Weight's insane.

Thinner than the 8500... wow.

I imagine it won't be itech titanium light but it will be at least fm480 light right? The 8500 weights more than the fm480.

Actually, you might be surprised.

It's lighter than 480, by quite a lot.

wow, then it must be close to the titanium. I don't know of any other cage besides the titanium that is actually lighter than the 480.

Does the cage shape at least look better than the 8500 cage. The 480 always looked the best to me.

I'm going back to a cage since I injured my eye in indoor soccer of all sports (never got an eye injury in hockey, albeit I always wore either a visor or cage).

I am up for a new change so I may switch out my chrome 480 on my 4500 for the Fantom with i2. Anyone have this setup or have a picture of how this looks?

Or are there any Fantom rockers who want to share their experiences with this cage?

Wait til you see the NBH 9500 cage. Wow.

If you're open to something other than the Fantom, I'd go for the 9500. I bought one and I really like it. The bars are really thin, and it's super light.

Ahh yes, as I went back and read this thread I remembered the 9500 is the new cage dujour. From an aesthetics viewpoint, I kind of want to switch out of chrome. I wish Bauer also had an i2 patent.

Decisions, decisions...

I like the fantom better than the 8500. The 8500 has a bar right across my eyes, the 8500 chin cup is nice though. I haven't tried the 9500. I may pick up a fantom i2, just in case they go away.

I got my fanthom via my normal dealer (saba) and it was really good... bars were not noticable while playing.

Recently got a Ti cage, and swapped to that only because of the weight difference. I still have the fanthom... good cage in my opinion.
