Guitar Hero/ Rock Band

Quick question? I am looking at this game but am wondering if you're left handed and play the guitar that way can you play this game? Is it customizable by having the colours the opposite way? Not sure I am making myself clear.....

I know that you can play the guitar backwards but for the software will the notes (colours coming on the screen) come opposite. Example, now blue is on the left, can it be told to come on the right?

I've played guitar for over 20 years and I suck at guitar hero. My fingers want to play real scales, bends, etc. I have a hard time putting my fingers where they wouldn't belong. My picking hand does well, though.

I was at the play'n trade this weekend and some little kid.. probably 12 or so... was ripping it up on g2 or 3 to Eric Johnson's, "Cliffs of Dover". I was pretty impressed. That tune has some pretty intricate stuff.

I guess guitar hero competitions are the rage now, too. When I left play'n trade I hit up the local music shop for a guitar part and they had just finished up a competition. Over 100 kids. crazy.

They have real guitar players on those games? I'm just getting sick of searching for certain videos and having to sift through pages of Rock Band and Guitar Hero videos. Why exactly is it so impressive? I don't get it.

it's really not that impressive. It's more of a waste of time. Sure I enjoy playing it with my friends because my friends can't play guitar and how can I enjoy playing music with non musically inclined friends.

Anyways being able to play real guitar is more enjoyable than pressing 5 colored buttons anyday.

this is the kind of stuff were teaching kids now... sadly

I was just impressed that some 12 year old kid's fingers could hang with Eric Johnson. Not as impressive as playing it for real, but I thought it was cool to see some kid jamming on tune I was jamming on back in '86.

Damn, you're good. Cliffs of Dover wasn't released until 91.

EJ played it on Austin City Limits in 86. That version blows away the Ah Musiawhatever version.

Edit: It was actually 1985 for his first performance on ACL.

To be completely honest, Cliffs Of Dover isnt really all that hard to play on real guitar. I find Rude Mood by SRV or even EVHs' Eruption to be trickier. Its still not easy but its not like you have to break your fingers to play it.

Never said Eruption was that hard, I just siad that to most people its harder than Cliffs Of Dover. Cliffs Of Dover is a bitch to learn though, its not hard its just SO time consuming.

Random chime in: Scuttle Buttin' by SRV has to be one of the most fun songs to play as well as Texas Flood.

I always found EJ harder to pull off because he's so precise and I'm not. I can pull off a few SRV things, but Rude Mude ain't one of them. In my prime, I covered Scuttle pretty well, but parts of Lenny were my staple. But there are parts I can't seem to get right even if I am note for note spot on.

and EJ was on ACL in 85. I've got it on VHS. He was an unknown at that time and hadn't even released "Tones" yet.

Is SRV in any of the GH's? I was wondering how they'd pull off his monster bends.

Not sure, I'm not too familiar with the games, but I remember thinking that they hacked the crap out of Misirlou, then again that's not even the hardest Dick Dale song out there.

DJ Hero? Seriously?

With the Beatles set, can you get Clapton to come in and knock out the solo for "while my guitar gently weeps"?

The first time I ever had Rock Band in my hands...I played something on guitar and was awful...58% or something...then I played as the bass player. High 80's...had that up over 90% before the end of the night (drunk I might add...)

No one else I know likes playing Bass...I love it.
