indaslot 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 My son is the top rookie on a Midget AAA team. His teamate, also a rookie, has not been producing.Truthfully, he is a very poor player who does not belong on the team, but his family seems very cozy with the coach and the whole administration. He's the kind of kid who runs after the ref to try and get assists that he doesn't deserve.People just laugh him off but today I'm not laughing. My son had a 4 point game on the weekend, his last game of the month. He finished top rookie for the second month in a row, his position threatened by only one player who was 2 points behind and would have played 2 more games by the end of the month. My son's teamate had no points in that game.My son learned that this kid had emailed the coaching staff complaining about "lost points".We thought that was a lot of chutzpah on his part, but, who cares.Last night, we were checking the scorers to see how the competition fared in their last game.I was shocked to see that a point had been removed from my son's stats and had been given to his teamate! My son checked the gamesheet online and it had been changed as well, giving this kid a goal and an assist-my son's.The player who was behind him was now tied for points, but even though he had played 2 more games, was now in first place because he had 1 more goal.Sorry to be petty (and long winded), but this is very disturbing to me and my son has lost a lot of feeling for this coach and feels betrayed.I needed to vent. This is a pretty competitive league and points are important. <_<
M-Cohen 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 I would feel the same way, and would bring it up with the coach. I know exactly what kind of kid you mean, a few years back I had a kid on my team who did not deserve to play A let alone AAA yet, he was given a spot with regular ice time cause his father bought the coach a brand new Hummer H2.. Yes, brand new. Bring it up with the coach, your paying $8,000+ you have the right to do so, especially if your son is a much of an influence on the team as you say. Also, seeing as I'm your sons age as well he should speak personally with the coach too. He is a player and thusly should not feel frightened/intimidated or anything. If the coach is that much of a douche that he won't listen to either, switch teams. Good players can find spots anywhere.

Unfortunatly,he can't go to another team in this neck of the woods. You can only play in your district. He might be reluctant to make waves because there could be repercussions if he speaks up. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 Stat sheets don't a hockey player make. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Nobody moves on with just numbers alone.
booyaagrandma 4 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 Stat sheets don't a hockey player make. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Nobody moves on with just numbers alone.Excellent point, there is only so long that kid can hide behind a stat sheet ,game play is what coaches or scouts notice. As long as your son keeps playing his game ,the other kid will just keep falling further behind and padding the stat sheet (with the coaches help)with points he did'nt actually score will only harm the other kids future in the end ,not your sons.( imho ) :)

pisani34 10 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 if anything, this would most likely just boost your kids intensity on the ice. im willing to bet that all he's going to do now is excel even more, and that jealous kid just keeps on crashin. Tell him not to sulk on the situation, but rather prove his point on the ice. hopefully this kinda thing will fire him up

Ti-girl 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 It happens everywhere. There was a player who played with my brother whose father gave him phantom assists all the time and the player ended up getting drafted in the WHL.Another player was on the same team and he got shafted by losing his points, but now we look at it and the kid who got the phantom assists got cut 3 years in a row from his WHL team and his Junior A team and the kid who got shafted...well he's no longer playing hockey but has accepted a free ride D1 scholorship for lacrosse.Moral of the story, if your son is good enough, it'll show. Cavs019 708 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 As a teammate I would hope someone smokes that kid in practice. No cohesive unit wants someone that values phantom points over wins. You could always have your son throw him a 2 mph saucer right in his skates as he's cutting through center ice. :)
D aka speck 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 I personally, am glad that you vented here rather than act like a psycho soccer mom. :D What really matters is commitment and dedication. You have a potential, future play maker. That other kid is a future douche bag. (I know that sounds mean... sorry)You want what's best for your kid, I can understand that.Unfortunately, that other kid's parent(s) want what's best for them. That crap NEVER works.Hang in there, you've got friends here. Zamboni 6 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 Don't have your son complain to staff/teamates or bring it up yourself to other parents. You would then look like one placing individual stats over the team , being petty etc.Without bringing up this particular revision suggest all future scoresheet changes be backed by video-if their to be allowed at all....and changes only be made to team copy of gamesheet. The coach can't be changing the official game sheet anyway-just his own team copy? If your league has home team responsible for submitting the official game sheet instead of timekeeper submitting its a big no-no to tamper with it. Point that out also-leagues that have home teams submit official gamesheets are strict on it not being editted because of what your experiencing and also as coaches can play with penalties if suspension warranted.edit: Gamesheet submitted must match copy given the visiting team at games end by timekeeper, that is the control to prevent home team from screwing around. indaslot 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 Apparently, all corrections are backed up by video. Even the official game sheet was changed. That too is online. I have never before seen a scoresheet changed 4 days after the fact, but that is what happened. Most changes are made immediatly, and that is usually for an obvious goal and it is pretty rare. Anyway, its' over and done. It wasn't so much the point as this particular kid who is a scourge on the team.....
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 Sooner or later people realise who the cancers are on a team and have them removed. Most guys see that as an important step in building/continuing with a good team.
