I'm rooting for him. Yes he has made his fair share of mistakes, but I've always liked him, and it was sad to see him decline after getting bought out from Detroit.

Good to here, i wonder how much debt he is still in

There was an auction for a lot of his possesions about a year ago. His Stanley Cup rings, a corvette, and a boat were some of the best things offered. The drinking, gambling, and horrible real estate ventures are what did him in.

I can read the headline now... "Grind Line back together, Wings sign McCarty, Detroit mayor accepts fraud charges and resigns, Michigan economy on the rise"

Most are Indian casinos, nickel slots and $20 table limits. MGM Grand is downtown Detroit, but last I heard business was slowing down from the economy crash.

For those non-Michigan people who didn't get my last post-

-The Detroit mayor is a known crook who denies it and still spends $20 grand in city money for his wife's shopping sprees.

-The economy here is in the dumps with no hope in sight until the next governor elections.

Cold day in Hell type of events ;)

He's still moving up the ladder.

He's on a 25 day PTO contract with the Grand Rapid Griffins of the AHL. Oh, that's the Redwings main farm team for those who don't know.

And less than a month to ink on a 2-way before his hopes for NHL action this season are over.

I can see the AHL in him, but Holland (Detroit's GM) has expressed less than no interest in him at this point.

We'll see at the deadline if anything happens.

I like McCarty...he added much needed grit to the Wings, but how about his Stanley Cup clinching goal against Philly....I never in a million years would of expected him to move like that! :P

Detroit signing McCarty really makes them look desperate to shake things up, IMHO. What they should be doing is picking up a defenseman, they desperately need an extra now that Rafalski, Lidstrom and Kronwall are all out!

only reason they are gonna sign him is because of the extented roster for playoffs he might play a couple games if drake and downey don't do anyting for us

Looks like the debt guys roughed him up a bit too, don't remember his right eye being that closed.

Drake is a flop, they should dump him, take McC and drive hard for that cup.

They don't need D, their AHL guys have shown they can step it up, Meech and Quincy are rocking right now. I wouldn't doubt McCarty signing for the league minimum, which would be what- $100,000 cap hit this late in the season?

I think they would be better off dumping Drake and bringing in McCarty. At this stage in his career they will get more out of him since it's do or die for him. The Wings need a big D-man since Rafalski and Lidstrom should be back for he playoffs. They need someone who can be very physical and keep the crease clean. I think that was the biggest loss when Fischer had to stop playing.

McCarty has said that he will always be a Wing at heart. I give alot of credit to the orginization for trying to help him. The Wings are one of the few teams in pro sports that seems to really care about thier people.

Lilja is supposed to be their big D-man, but he doesn't have the presence to be that guy just yet. Kronwall plays pretty physically, but he's been a glass-man the last few seasons, he needs to drink more milk for crying out loud.

Drake hasn't done jack. He might have 5 points or so, but he's never a presence when on the ice. No big hits, no physicality, no playmaking, just not there. Downey has done a much better job at being the tough guy, going out to send a message, give hits, play hard. I really like Downey, he's got class, he knows his place and he's playing hard every time he's on the ice.

The wings are sitting on ~5mil of cap space. They could easily sign a big D-man, but there isn't anyone on the block right now. If they traded for someone like Blake ($6mil) or Foote (<$5mil) who would leave? I'd say they wait for off-season and get a UFA with that cash. Aaron Ward ($2.75mil) is UFA this off season, Ken Holland might look to get him back and step up the blue line.

Though Ken has a history of making amazing picks and deals. 4 days to go, right?

I think Blake and Foote are to old, they already have enough experience back there. Cambell from Buffalo would be a decent choice.

I really like Downey. He has alot of grit and knows what his job is. When Lidstrom was hit, Downey was right there to send a message. last time the Wings played the Ducks he took on Parros and at least to me, look like he won that contest.
