I picked up a pair of these Bauer SP300's on eBay. I felt like RoboCop with my Bauer 6000's on in this league, so I had to take it down a few notches.

Can't really give any feedback on the 300's yet though, as they have not shown up.

anyone use the supreme classics?

i was going to take a look at them but the shops in my area didn't have them. one shop worker told me that they were pretty thin. he said probably as thin as the supreme 10's, so i ended up getting the 10's since they were available. they're a little thinner than my supreme 30's that i had. i liked those as far as the padding and they were pretty protective. i have a game wednesday and will try out the new 10's to see how the movement is. i was coming from ccm 652's and they were HUGE. i felt like a football player in those.

anyone use the supreme classics?

TBLfan and maybe a few others have these and talked about them other week here.

I owned a pair of the Bauer Classic SP, which are slightly earlier than the Supreme Classics. I never used them and ended up selling them to someone on the MSH boards. I also had a teammate who wore them. He was alright with them, but he complained that the shoulder caps kept getting snagged on his jersey. He ended up replacing those with a pair of Coopers he found on eBay.

Another lace-up styles would be the DR Legends (my LHS guy preferred their fit to Sher-Woods'). That line has been discontinued, but you might still be able to find them.

There are two different versions of the DR Legends and they both fit differently as well.

I have been using the Easton Classic's for a few years now, and for "light" contact mens hockey....I think that they are just about perfect. They are the classic style with smaller plastic shoulder caps (yet still protective) and then forms and more flexible plastics throughout the remainder of the pad, and ties it all off with a lace up sternum. Plenty of padding to absorb a slap shot from the point, yet I have never found them bulky, and obstructing my vision looking back for a pass.

I'd go with the Sherwood Traditionals. If you have a few bucks to throw around (which most guys don't) try the new Farrell shoulder pads.

I love the classics, extremely comfortable. I love them.

For what I am doing, and my lack of desire to spend money on protective equipment (sticks are a whole other issue though) they have done everything that I have expected them to do in the leagues that I play in.

I wear very similar shoulder pads to those (pretty much the same thing, but older, so they're Cooper branded, rather than Bauer) for men's league/drop-in hockey - they do the job. If I'm not really going to be hitting anyone, I just want the most minimalistic shoulder pads possible, and those are about it. I have another league I play in that's a little more competitive/physical (it's supposed to be no hitting, but that's a rather lax regulation) and I have a little heftier pair that I keep around for that (Jofa 8400's, purchased when I played with hitting, but tend to be a little bit more shoulder pad than I feel like I need), but I still wear the Coopers for that sometimes, because I just like them better.

You can't go wrong with a pair of SBD II or III's regardless of wether the label says Cooper or Bauer. The shoulder caps are big but it's like they are not even there until you need them.

The Classic's have the shoulder caps with an extended flap that wrap around your bicep with velco. Very comfortable, and keeps the shoulder caps low profile and in position without moving.

Separated my shoulder last night (official diagnosis is medium AC sprain) playing mens league not wearing shoulder pads. I have a new pair of Lightspeeds sitting in my basement that I will be dusting off now. I have worn them a few times and they are pretty comfortable. I just had a hard time getting used to wearing shoulder pads again that I just didn't bother. Now I'm on the shelf at least this week and possibly till after Thanksgiving...

I have just picked up some old Jofa 3500 shoulder pads which I love. I was able to get them for $30 and would highly recommend them (as long as contact is not too much). Nice mobility, not too high, very nice :)

how do the Easton Classics compare w/ the Bauer 4000?

The 4000's have much larger and more pronounced shoulder caps made out of hard plastic, where the Classics are a much more pliable shoulder cap. Also, the torso protection in the 4000's is much longer, while the Classics are little more than a bro/manzier. :)

After playing in mens leagues the past few years I've found a lot of them are guys with no shot or stick control and I take a lot of shots to the chest and sticks to the shoulders. So personally I prefer to wear more protective "modern" shoulder pads over the classic types, like what I'm wearing now(12 year old koho profeels) and think if anybodys leagues are similar to mine go with something a little less... flimsy and something a little more protective, but that's just me.

Now after a shot to the chest about a year ago, certain ways I stretch makes my chest pop around the sternum, I've had x-rays which showed nothing, but it's quite the wierd feeling.

I used the Bauer Classics and love them. Very lightweight and great mobility. Good enough for non-check men's league, which is what I play.
