In the current issue of The Hockey News, there is an interview with Steve Carell. He mentions that he plays in a rec league on the West Coast. Being a West Coast native myself, I am wondering where he plays? Does anyone know?

i remember a segment on Canucks.com where Cuba Gooding Jr. came to GM Place and practiced with the Canucks and said he played in the Hollywood games (Kiefer Sutherland, Denis Leary, Cuba, etc;).. don't know if they still do that since that video was from around 01-02.

Is the hollywood games a team league or tournament? I have heard Cuba plays some pick up games at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo where the kings practice.

Monday nights at toyota center in elsegundo a bunch of celebritys and nhlers play around 8 or 9pm. i think this time slot is paid for by brukheimer and is invite only. during the summer alot of nhlers skate this pickup. had a buddy who played goalie in it for a while.

he plays at Pickwick Ice Center in Burbank.. I play pickup there on Wednesday nights and although I've never seen him, supposedly he plays in league there, I recognized the rink also in an episode of The Office. while on the topic of celebrity hockey, a buddy of mine used to play in a league with Kiefer Sutherland here in LA.

Btw I just can't imagine Kiefer Sutherland with hockey equipment. Most people I can for some reason, but not him.

Carell came on Leno for The Office S4 promo and he talked about how he grew up playing goalie. He said he sucked at it so he switched to playing defense and at the time of coming on the show. He also said he injured his groin :lol:

True story -

About 4 years ago, my parents moved into a house in Toluca Lake, CA (in Los Angeles county). The house is in an area where Andy Garcia and Kirsten Dunst both have homes and when they were looking at the house, they were told that the original owner of the house was Stan Laurel of "Laurel and Hardy" when it was built in the 20's.

So after they'd lived there a few weeks they were still putting things away and I was over there helping unpack boxes, etc. I went to put a box in a cabinet in the garage when I found a pair of used Canucks dark socks (from the blue uni's). I thought that was kind of odd and didn't know the previous owner played hockey. I left the socks there, not needing another pair of socks but I didn't want to throw them away either. A few weeks went by and eventually my Mom met one of the neighbors who said "no one's lived there since Steve moved out ("Steve" being Steve Carrell)."

She told me about it but I had no idea he played so I didn't even think about the socks being his but then once I saw an Office episode where they go ice skating (which was shot at Pickwick Ice Arena in Burbank, CA) I could tell right away that he was a player.

Long story short, the socks were most likely his - my Mom still has them :).

I can't remember, I'll ask my buddy next time I see him but I think he said that Jack Bauer played D.. but he only showed up for maybe 4 games the entire season. This was last year.. he said he was a decent player, playing in the 2nd to top division in that adult league.

On a high school math test, Jack Bauer put down "Violence" as every one of the answers. He got an A+ on the test because Jack Bauer solves all his problems with Violence.

With "24" scheduled for winter break in a month and nobody crossing the picket lines, maybe he'll be starting his jail sentence early.

Too bad his plea agreement was reported to be a total of 48 days in jail broken up into two separate stints to accommodate his shooting schedule. It had been said he'd get less time if he served the sentence in one go.

Yet, not too many people are aware of his longest running weekly show -- a Sunday night pick-up hockey game featuring "24's' Kiefer Sutherland as its star player.

" There's a group of guys that we play a kind of a pick-up game with, and we've been playing for 10 years, pretty much," says Bruckheimer. " There are a few celebrities who play, but mostly it's just guys who grew up in the East or in Canada."

That said, Bruckheimer drops the names of a few celebrity teammates. " Cuba Gooding Jr. comes; Tom Cruise has come once or twice; and a bunch of television actors show up. Kiefer Sutherland plays with us. So it's a lot of fun."

Indeed. While, on " 24," as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer, Sutherland helps protect America from terrorists, but, on ice, as a defenseman, he helps protect the goal from opposing players. Apparently, when one of your days lasts 24 weeks, you have enough time for hobbies, even with a busy shooting schedule.

" Kiefer's really a good player," reveals Bruckheimer. " He loves hockey."

As for the producer, 10 years of practice have not prepared him for a second career with the NHL.

" I'm terrible," he admits with a laugh, " but I love it.""
