Niedermayer to return

Recommended Posts

He did officially retire in the first place, or am I mistaken? I love Scotty, but enough with the MJ mentality. Retire to your millions already.

Never filed the paperwork to make it official

No...he never filed retirement papers...if he did (I believe) he would not be allowed to return in the same season.

He is currently under suspension by the Ducks for missing Training Camp. TSN was saying it would be at least 21 days before he plays in a game because he "owes" the Ducks the time he missed in Camp.

Can anyone confirm that?

[EDIT] TSN (Darren Dreger) just clarified it. Once Burke lifts Nieds suspension, he has 21 days to get under the Cap to make room for him on the roster. Nieds can go in as soon as that move has been made. They said Mat Scheinder is expected to be the player/money moved.

nhl.com says that he could be back in 7-10 days

I'm sorry but this whole situation is making me lose respect for Niedermayer. I understand how he wasn't sure if he wanted to play, and thats fine, but now someone like Schneider is going to be moved. If they would have told Schneider during the free agency period that he'd be the one moved if Niedermayer decided to come back, do you think there is any chance in hell he would have signed with them?

I agree.

I respect how difficult of a decision it must be to retire from a sport when you are a professional athelete, but thousands of players before Scott Niedermayer were able to make that decision without disrupting their team for a quarter of the season, what makes him so special?

And don't tell me the team told him it was ok for him to take his time, of course they're going to say that, what else can they do?

I heard from the beginning that he would be back around Christmas. I do not think it is right to play when you feel like it. What about the other players that have gone through the camp and games? Putting one player before the team, I think is very selfish. I have lost alot of respect for him.

I feel the bad influences of other sports are starting to leak into hockey.

I'm sure Schneider knew there'd be a possibility that his salary would be moved if Niedermeyer decided to return.

Even when that player is Scott Niedermeyer? I don't know about that.

Is Niedermayer bigger than hockey? The NHL existed before Niedermayer and will exist after Niedermayer. It is not a decision to play in the NHL it is a privilege.

There are some players who have the clout, resume, and talent to make the decision. Niedermeyer being one of them.

Well after watching Burke in the interview he seems like he is in agreement that its silly of Niedermeyer to do this as he seemed very agitated and said " yes we understand he has earned this right once and had decided to play, he won't have this chance a second time" etc. Anyways I mean I agree that he should come back and there's nothing wrong with that, I just feel like he could have done it differently. First by not telling the media from the start and being so open about it. Just my opinion though.

My favorite part about the whole drama was when Scotty N. held a press conference.... to tell people he was still undecided.

Rumors I've been seeing more of and reading are Schneider to the Blackhawks.

The only problem is Talon said he's not sure he wants to take on Schneider's salary, but is very interested.

This means Niedermeyer still wants another Stanley Cup, but what a way to end your career if they did win again.

It means Neidermeyer still wants some of that $13 million he left on the table.

Taking that long to decide if he wanted the rest of the $13 million? Ehhh...that did have something to with it, definitely. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but it would not take me this long to decide over $13 million.

As for Schneider, I'd like to see the Ducks keep him. Let go of a forward. Young prospect maybe? Miller perhaps? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see the Ducks lose players. Just my tiny two centavos.

It isn't the roster spot that is a problem, it is the cap number.

You'd really think other GMs have Burkie over a barrel here in just about any talks...they know he has to get rid of somebody to make space, obviously not a strong negotiating stance. It will be very interesting to see what he can come up with.
