Um.....Maybe it was the glass that some bitch broke on my collar bone last night, but, shouldnt he use a higher lie? Also, it might be a rocker of the blade thing. Food for thought.

Ok...break it down for me. Heres what Im thinking, dudes using stick, sits on the heel, wouldnt a high lie move the point of contact for the blade further along the heel of the blade towards the toe?

Zach,

You are right. The blade will lay flat farther from your feet with a lower lie. A blade will lay flat closer to your feet with a higher lie. Remember, goalie sticks lie flat with lies of 13,14. Therefore, if this guy is wearing the heel on his XXXX and wants more blade on the ice, he has to use a higher lie. If he was wearing the toe off the blade, he would need a lower lie to drop his hands down and get the blade to lie flat.

BTW, I know they do not make the XXXX in a lie above 6.

no. if the heel is being worn, a lower lie (with all else remaining the same) will put the blade more parallel to the ice. draw a picture and you will see.

Assuming he is using the stick at the length prefers; a lower lie would be needed to drop the rest of the bade onto the ice. A higher lie will only make the problem worse. A shorter stick or a blade with a bigger rocker are also potential solutions, though not the best in my opinion. I find that people rarely change hand positions because of the lie on their blade, they tend to hold their hands in the same place regardless of the results.

he is obviously holding the stick the way he prefers to. heel is on the ice and toe is pointed up. toe needs to come down. he needs a bigger angle between the shaft and the blade. higher lie would raise the toe causing more problem.

LOWER LIE.

edit: chadd beat me to it, we must've posted at the same time haha

Ok, if I take a stick and hold it on the ice with the heel touching and the toe raised, in order to get the blade to lay flat, I have to raise the stick up. If I raise the stick up, I would be using a higher lie. I am doing this exercise with a stick at my desk as I type this. I know in some things I am crazy but I thought I had this figured out.

If the heel of the blade is on the ice, your hands are too low for the lie that you are using. Going with a stick with an even higher lie is going to make the problem worse. Your example is assuming the change will be made at the player end, while the change needs to be made at the blade end.

By going with a lower lie the hands and shaft stay in the same position while the toe of the blade drops down and puts more of the blade on the ice.

well he called me and is ordering a Warrior Dolomite pro stock shaft from monkey. And he wants the smyth blade. But they only had it in 4 lie so i asked him where the blade on his XXXX is wearing and he said heel. Now he ordered a 4 lie and i told him that warrior lies are off by 1 and that 4 is going to be like a 5

4's a hard (impossible) lie to find retail so he can either cut the stick shorter to make the lie work or look for pro-stock.
