Downie

Laraque finally gets him!

Cheap shot by Laraque. That said, Karma is a bitch.

Precisely. I hate to see this stuff, regardless of who it happens to.

This and fighting are the two things I find hard to explain to those just getting into hockey.

It was a cheap shot, but not nearly as bad. That probably more had to do with how strong Georges is.

Games are starting to get real chippy between these two teams.

Not nearly as bad as Downies hit. He has more coming.

You can paralyze a guy with a hit like that. Nobody deserves that, even Downie. That said, I can't see how Laraque deserves more than the two games Jones got for knocking Bergeron out for the season.

Well, the NHLPA would be dumb to not appeal anything that is more than one game after Ilya's suspension.

If anyone cares, Downie's on the bench for the third.

And he picked a fight later. And, apparently, he was laughing after Laraque hit him; some of the Pens said it was a dive. Downie himself said he saw Georges coming, turned into the boards, and then got hi.

My money's on a dive.

Didn't even look like a "hit" to me. More like Laraque putting his hands on Downie's lower back and directing him into the boards. Downie's own attempt to turn hard left is what put him into the boards head on. I don't think any suspension is called for. Bet he gets 1 game, though, as the league is focusing on hits from behind.

Don't get me wrong....I'm a huge Philly fan and I actually like the way Downie plays -- reminiscent of Tocchet. He'll learn to settle down with the cheap stuff and be a major agitator in this league IMHO.

But when I look at this play again, it looks like Downie sort of launches himself into the boards after getting the "push." Not really a dive but a little extra something to make it look like his head gets crunched. I wouldn't put it passed him to do this.

Steve Downie couldn't carry Rick Tocchet's jockstrap. Tocchet had a sack when he played and backed it up at both ends of the ice. Tocchet is not one of my favorite players but he made his team a lot tougher with his game.

Downie should be glad it was Cote on the other end of all those lefts Georges threw. Downie's face would have been mush if he was getting 5 for receiving. Oh wait, I forgot, Downie doesn't fight the heavyweights.

I'll second that, wouldnt doubt it for a second, he looked over his shoulder 3 times. And i really really hope someone gets this kids helmet off because he cant hide behind his visor laughing forever. disrespect is all i see from this kid

I'm not going to flat out say Downie dove and faked the whole semi-seizure thing, but I think it's certainly in the realm of possibility given his history the events after the "hit".

If he was really knocked out he should have been held out of the game. Instead, he never misses a shift and actually fights later (and takes a few good punches, though he got the better of Stone).

He's either the toughest player in the NHL or the biggest sideshow.

Guys like that are going to figure out the hard way on what it's like to earn respect in the show. Downie and Avery are similar in that sense. Both complete jerkoff's but they keep forgetting that both of them are actually good hockey players and can contribute positive aspects. Avery is finally getting a clue and doing what he should be doing. I'm sure Downie will eventually learn. Problem is the way Philly is going he probably won't learn with that club.

While I agree they both should get theirs...how long have people been saying about Avery, yet nobody has really tuned him up yet.

As much as I hate Avery, and I do, he hasn't really warranted a beating the way Downie has. I don't remember Avery being nearly that bad even when he was starting out in Detroit.

Avery's more of a verbal guy, while Downie's more of a physical intimidation guy. Avery was "tuned up" pretty good by the Oilers when he was on the Kings.

Avery still talks but has cut way back on the cheap shots.

No one's going to cripple a guy for chirping though, it's the cheap crap Downie's pulled that's going to get him beaten. Only for the safety of someone he'd probably end up killing, I hope Downie matures.

Anybody know if the linesman is OK?

Not only is this guy evil, but his stupidity knows no depths. How many incidents? The race baiting, the hazing, the flying elbow, now this? Seriously, how can teams continue to give him the opportunity so many other guys devote their lives toward attaining? The thing that really gets me is it seems that his skills are marginal at best when measured by NHL standards. He was a waste of space for the Flyers. Who keeps promoting him?

You should have seen the hit from behind that Avery threw in the famous Bruins-Stars "Ott Game".

The Admirals are going to appeal this ruling. I would like to see the video of this because i really cannot see him deliberately slashing a linesmen if his team is appealing it, so it really can't be as bad as it sounds.

Just saw the video during the Leafs Intermission. Looked pretty deliberate to me. Kypreos is defending him too...??? Saying it was a "reputation call" even though the AHL calls for an automatic 20 games for contacting an official with your stick.

I looked on YT....nothing yet. Unless I'm just not looking for it under the right names.
