bbruins8 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I'm not trying to market this stuff by any means. I was valeting at Charley's Steakhouse in Tampa...this guy comes out of the place hammered stumbling and talking about this meeting he is having trying to market his energy drink inside. He gives me a few to take home to try. I have never been a fan of energy drinks, and Red Bull gives me a stomach ache. I typically just stick to fluids before and during skates. I decided to try it out before skating...holy hell it actually works, and it tastes decent to boot, and it's BLUE not piss yellow. If you can afford to pick up a small case, I'd recommend trying it. So far no crash either. Just got back from skating an hour 45 pick up, short benches, still ready for more. This is my third time using it, one can left...gonna try and get a hold of some more for free, if that doesn't work I'll have to make a withdrawl from Fort Knox.Link

bbruins8 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 What does it taste like? I've looked at their site and it sounds bitchin, too bad there's no love for us Missourians :(It's hard to explain but it's got a sweet berry blue type artificial taste to it. The cans are small so I just chug it down, don't really taste it but it's not bad at all. No retailer in Missouri? Order online. They use some ingredient that none of the others use. It's like CP10 or some shit I have no idea I was reading about it though, and it's not some cheap ploy either. This stuff is not a sugar high, it's actual energy. First time I used it I had a cold, but was offered a free skate...and well in FL you just don't turn down free ice time ever, never, ever. It was incredible. dalebert 8 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 About 5 years ago I was a stock boy for a deli and we used to stock this, I remember we had a one year anniversary for the deli and the Liquid Ice guy had it on tap in the back of his car so we all got a little shot of it. For the rest of my time at that deli I would pretty much drink them every day I worked, they were in my opinion the best tasting energy drink I had ever tried. Archangel#16 1 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 This drink is really good. I cannot describe the taste. I remember they were doing some sort of research to see if it would sell and a couple of friends and I got some. Too bad it costs somewhere around $3 for a 8 oz. can. lotus 2 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 Man I've been a caffeine fiend for years, so I pretty much have to check this out now.My personal favorites are StarBucks double shots, just because they're delicious as hell. I also like Rockstars, for the same reason except they're gigantic cans that last a while ^.^ But you want a heart attack you say? Check this out:A Carb free Rockstar has 240 MGs of Caffeine, where your average redbull has 80. Stuff actually provides a noticable buzz, at least for me.As for redbulls product: Cocaine, which was pulled from the shelves and is now back on with no name at all.....320 MGs. In the same sized can as a Redbull. It burns to drink, VERY much so. It actually hurts. Stay away from those.I used to drink lots of caffeine for late night games, just to keep me mentally awake and aware. But then randomly one night it got me super jittery and I couldn't even receive a pass, none the less stick handle. So I try to limit it before a game now haha. Man, that game lasted forrreverrr.I'll pickup a few at the local Spencers tomorrow and check back. I'm mostly interested because their selling point isn't "look! look! we crammed even more caffeine into a small can!".
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 I like to stay away from drinks with a lot of caffeine, remember caffeine is a drug. Ginseng wakes you up and the effects are long lasting, that is one of the best to wake you up.How most energy drinks work:Sugar: Almost instantly, but lasts very shortGinseng: about 15-20 mins and lasts for about an hour or soCaffeine: Takes anywhere from 30min to 2 hours to react in the body, lasts around 4 hours.Might be a little rusty on those times but I believe they are accurate, haven't had to deal with nutrition/drugs and the effects on the body in a couple years. Race4LastPlace 31 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 Ever had a BAWLS energy drink. That is the poison of choice for the neversleeping hardcore gamers. Tastes kinda like sprite, but has a nice kick in the face
BigDipper 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 Steve Larmer would drink 5-7 cups of coffee before a game. If I did that I would be shitting through the eye of a needle. Or you could go the old school way and pop sudafed....riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Tastes kinda like sprite, but has a nice kick in the face We sell those at my LHS the bottles are "ribbed for your pleasure" and yeah I tried it once and don't plan on drinking that stuff anymore. It's kinda scary though when the 10 year old's beg their parents for it and the parents walk to the counter with it and go Bawls huh? is that some kind of joke? BK 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 Not to sound like a poor sport or anything, but you have to be stupid to drink ANY energy drink before you skate. The only "energy" you get out of them from the sugar and caffeine. Want some real energy? Try some carbs an hour before your skate. If you eat right, get enough sleep and are even remotely in shape, you should have plenty of energy.
JR97 2 Report post Posted January 27, 2008 A buddy of mine works for redbull and I used to get the stuff for free. I got to the point where I was drinking 2 pre-game and 1 during. After a while the only effect was jitters and heart palpatations. I rarely have the stuff anymore. Maybe a can here and there for the late games. Last week I threw down one of those big ass Monster energy drinks and had major jitters. Like a previous poster, I couldn't receive a pass worth crap. I also had less stamina than normal. This week I made sure to get plenty to eat before hand and even took a nap. I had the best game of the season so far. The best boost I ever had was from taking some dayquil. I had no idea about the psedopehdrine effects. I had the flu and was just trying to get the nasal passages open. End result of that day was a championship in a one day ladder tournament starting from the bottom rung. In the locker room one of the guys saw the dayquil bottle by my bag and informed me of the amphetimine nature of the stuff and that there was a huge NHL controversy over it. Also that some of the ingredients are banned substances on the Olympic list. (my research has shown that just about everything is on that list.)
thejackal 46 Report post Posted January 27, 2008 i dont handle cafeine well so i've never had an actual energy drink. a few years back i drank 2L of pepsi before a game and was dying on the bench, so reading through all this is pretty interesting.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted January 27, 2008 I can only handle the RedBull knockoff called XL. The Liquid Ice berry taste isnt that bad either. Redline and Cocaine had me wanting to puke. It was a burning cinnamon type taste. It did really wire me up, though.

Jarick 5 Report post Posted January 27, 2008 I only have caffeine in the morning, maybe 2 or 3 cups of coffee on a bad day. I don't respond well to sugar spikes, especially if I'm doing any physical activity. Complex carbs in the pre-game meal and a bit of fruit juice right before I leave does the trick.I will say several years ago, a great start to the night was Amp energy and vodka. Put down a couple of those and you're ready to hit the town.
Tikkanen 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2008 Twinlabs & XXyience both make good tasting sugar free energy drinks. Basically, carbonated, caffinated, artificially flavored water with vitamins, taurine, caffeine, ginseng, etc.. You just have to look around. I try to avoid the 1's with sugar but they usually taste really good and stick to my gut.
