easton classic

UL shaft and wood blade

or one90 shaft and wood blade

i wouldnt even try for an OPS. you get what you pay for. the stealth SC6 (same as synergy 300/350) is a pretty nice stick. however they are running around 80-90 dollars, and for a few bucks more you could get a stealth CNT

If you are in Canada the NBH XXII stick (available in canada only) is about 120-130 bucks and has all the qualities of the high end sticks in terms of the DET blade, and construction and what not. I have the XVI now, and it isn't too bad, the blade leaves a little something to be desired in the stiffness catergory though. My LHS was sold out of XXII's when I bought this stick. I think the XVI is the Bauer equivalent to a snergy 350/500.

Prostock shaft and blade combos are cheap, and for the price vs. performance I don't think can be beat.

You can find them on ebay or HM

I know it's not the best advice but as easy as you could get say a synergy 200/300/350 or a misson hex or a vapor V2 or whatever, I usually find that late model higher end sticks usually go on sale for around those price points. ie. i got an SL from sportchek for 100bux, ST's were same price. you can never go wrong with an ultralite/z-bubble or any shaft comparable but at retail they're usually around 100bux. I suggest look for higher end stuff thats on sale

Yeah the Vapor XXII is not a very good stick. I bought one not too long ago and after a few weeks the blade broke. I would suggest a Synergy ST like the green one or something, i saw them for sale in Canada for 130 dollars. Also a one90 shaft would be good too, i have a one90 two peice with a one90 blade in it and i like it alot. I would also maybe suggest a Ballistik Caliber. I've seen them for pretty cheap at my LHS something like 110 dollars for the non grip one, i've heard good things about those sticks.

You can get the tps response armor for under 80$ now. It's the 06 model of the $170 TPS R6. Durable and amazing performance, you won't regret it.

If you can get by for a few months, online stores seem to start trying to move old stock in spring. If you keep an eye open, you can pick up some good sticks/shafts for a steal.

I'd say if you like the feel of wood, a quality standard shaft and wood blade are the way to go. One90, AK27, Ultralite, R6, etc.

If you like the feel of a OPS, I'd track down a closeout of last years model, like the XXX Lite, Synergy SL, Stealth, etc.

My preference would be to save a bit more cash and try and find a good deal on a tapered combo, but I don't like the feel of standard shafts at all. From what I've felt of the budget sticks, they aren't worth spending money on.

For the lower-end sticks, since they have more fiberglass content, are they stiffer than the flex is listed?

depends on the model, but i find the opposite generally.
