Low Profile Shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

How about the older RBK/ Jofa 6k? Anybody have any opinions about them? I found a pair for 40 bucks and were thinking about picking them up, but wanted some opinions about them first.

The Rbk/Jofa shoulder pad is what I use in league play. It's a very protective shoulder pad but doesn't have the bulkier rounded shoulder caps like on the 8K/9k models. I think it's really overkill for a beer leaguer but it is light and has a very slim contour fit. The shoulder pads are flatter (their the pads they used to use on the CCM Pro Tacks shoulder pads) and not quite as low profile as on the S-9/5 or Bauer shoulder pad models but still not too shabby. Myself I think it's more of an elite level shoulder pad but it you like it I think it is more than adequate for a beer leaguer. I'm not afraid to take any type of hit in these pads so they work great for me.

After reading this thread I bought the Farrells for $100. Haven't worn shoulders in 3-4 years but I've been leaning towards being more protective of my body. Usually, I wake up the next day with random bruises where I don't remember getting hit. The Farrells look to be conforming to the body while giving me a lot more protection than the nothing I currently wear and price isn't an issue. If they suck I'll let you guys know.

farrells

you cant even tell someones wearing shoulder pads if they take the shoulder caps off

Even better, leave the caps on but TRIM them to the low profile size you like.

Just found some Sher-Wood 5030's in the locker room last week and used them in a couple games this weekend, not too bad. Only problem is, they are XL and I'm a twig, (6'1", 150) so I have to tighten the straps to the max. But the shoulder caps stick up weird, as they are more on the side of the shoulder than on top like my V-14's I usually use, which I don't like since I'm going for the "shoulder pads by name only" look.

Since the cap is double layered, I'm thinking of taking off a layer and if that doesn't work, the shoulder cap completely. Don't know if it would be a good idea to continue using them in HS after that though, playing defense, that might be a bit painful.

I have the RBK 6K shirt, it's OK. I cut some of the fabric off of it cause I got hot. If it was a compresion shirt I would've stuck with it, but having a dri-fit sleeveless shirt, the 6K and my jersey was just too many layers. I got the Farrell's today, very impressed. I don't look or feel like a robot and I like how you can modify it to what you want on there. I ordered a medium based on Farrell's website, best price I found was on hockey1.com. Guy from hockey 1 called me the next morning and said they ran big so he would send me a small. I'm 6ft, 190 lbs and the small is not tight so be careful ordering these things, evidently they run very big if I'm a small.

I'm considering Farrel shoulder pads, but since you said they run big what size would you suggest? I am 6'1" 145-150, so XS or XXS?

I'd say XXS. I lift weights too so that and 50 lbs means you should be much smaller than me chest and shoulder-wise (and gut). I took the shoulder caps off, just want basic protection since I play in non check ice leagues. Just trying to avoid those random bruises from shots, sticks and elbows. With the cube system these things should be perfect once they get sweat in them.

Yeah that's what I thought too. I'm a twig basically haha. I'll use them in HS hockey, I think I'll be fine since I normally don't take too many hits, just occasionally give them. Tell me how you like them after awhile.
