Valentines Day

Recommended Posts

As everyone knows, Valentine's day is approaching. I personnally think it's retarded but i have a girlfriend so i guess i have to participate. Minus the fact that i have no idea what i'm supposed to do. We've been going out for nine months which in high school is pretty long. We don't buy each other things for every month like other HS couples so i don't think she's expecting me to go all out and buy her like a diamond necklace or something. But at the same time i have no idea. Period. Any help would be appreciated, especially from girls too. Also talk about what you guys are pulling out of your hats for this special occasion.

My GF isn't big on gifts. She hates people giving her things because they think they have too...She decided a couple years ago that "consumables" are perfect gifts...something she can get, enjoy and not have to store/keep it *S*

Cards however are still important...so I'm probably getting her a card, and taking her out for dinner.

What about just taking her out for dinner...somewhere nicer than you'd go on a regular date.

And as cliche as it has become, we're suckers for anything that's thoughtful. Anything she may have been hinting at needing/wanting is always good. Even if it doesn't seem like a typical/romantic type gift, it will go over well if it's something she's been looking to get.

Care to share the theme...or does that fall under T.M.I?

Don't waste too much money, shes probably not the one.

However, I'm quite bitter, so I might not be good to consult on this holiday :-p

As soon as I read the title, I was looking forward to your post(s).

I would imagine that falls under TMI, yeah.

Remember, it's steak and...umm... day March 14th

(mack, can I say BJ? sheesh, why ask you that...lol)

It is, as far as I am concerned, a Hallmark holiday. However, *most* women place a big deal on it so you guys just have to suck it up.. and deliver. Sorry, silly mood today.

The thoughtful gifts aren't when you spend a lot on her IMO, but when you give her something that says you "get" her. You have paid attention and have found something that preferably means something to her or is something she has mentioned she'd like.

You can go with the basic consumables - do you know if she prefers dark or milk chocolate?

You could mix a CD of music that you think would be very special for her.

You could make a card (it really works, says you didn't just stop at the drug store on your way over)

You could write a love letter... one that says something.

You could write a poem.

You could frame the pair of concert tickets that you've kept from the very first concert you guys went too. (OK, save that idea for the next relationship... if you think ahead you can be very romantic for not a lot of $$'s)

You could frame a pic of the two of you.

Is there something she is goofy over? Still has a "thing" for stuffed animals? A poster from a movie?

Romantic is a gesture that grows organically from knowing the person... what makes them tick, what they are into. Even better if it reflects something the two of you have shared.

Is this enough?

Oh, if you go the restaurant route... make reservations, most of them are very crowded with the folks who are romantic one day a year. Not cool to be driving around searching for a place that still has room. And some of them will have "special menus" for the night... that might mean more money than normal... so check it out, call ahead. MissD found that one out when she took her bf out for his birthday on New Years.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the last one to censor a woman from saying that. I like that day as it's the one day I pretend to eat steak so I can administer the steak.

Oh I'm the most romantic thing around when I put it together, but this year it'll be ice skating downtown in a nice little outdoor place they have, then just a nice dinner. I'm laying the ground work for the renewing of vows since we're probably due.

Oh c'mon, your the suave, refined English major (arn't you?), I'm sure you could write all the struggling for ideas dudes on this board some stuff thats guaranteed to get the..job..done. :D

Once something worthwhile happens I'll pull the shy boy trying to get a girlfriend topic back from the dead. Its like the Oxygen station around here sometimes :)

But no, seriously, any of you dudes fortunate enough to be with a girl you truly care about, take the day and prove it to her. If shes a dumb bitch whore and screws you over in the end, oh well.

Well since it is approaching whats people thought of breaking up near valentines day, I have a buddy... who is going to break up with his girl friend soon and does not know if it is better to end it before or end it after. What is your opinion??

Before. It will be awful for him "faking" it through the day... and after the fact, she'll look back on the day and realize he was faking it and feel awful about it.

oh my, what a romantic thread this one is!

The board's filled with a lot of teens, how romantic can it get? Back then it was romantic if I splurged for a Super Size.

Yeah i am not the romantic type at all, just trying to help a buddy out with his situation. As of right now he is hoping that his girlfriend cheats on him over the weekend, cowards way out i would say..
