Advice on Pants... RYR? Tackla? or other?

Recommended Posts

YEE-HAW, I get to spend some money! Enough to make any equipment junkie joyous!

It's taken me two years to wear her down, but MissD has FINALLY admitted her pants have bit the dust (after taking a puck between the shins and the too-short leg) so we're going shopping.

A while back someone recommended RYR pants. They do a number of team custom orders here in Toronto, so I wonder if anyone here has used them and could tell me about them?

Her current pants are Tackla 900's - which seemed to satisfy *my* need for protection (so I can maintain my zen hockeymom decorum when she is being taken into the boards) and *her* need for movement.

I was never really satisfied with how they fit... MissD has *hips* so we had to get them a titch big in the waist... she didn't mind having to hike them up all the time, but it drove me nuts.

Bottom line: I want a good quality pant with protection, mobility and lightness, willing to spend some $$'s but not take out a second mortgage. What would you recommend for my girl *thug*?

Suspenders. Best investment to keep my pants fitting well through the game. Not that I've got hips, but I don't like tight pants and the suspenders make it so I never need the belt or have to hike mid-game.

Edit- I also put the straps over my shoulder pads, helps keep them from rising up so I don't need to keep the chest straps tight.

Best of luck to you and Miss D

NBH is making the Supreme 70 pant in a Ladies cut. The cut accomodates the different hip shape and inseam rise that women have quite well. That being said, Tackla is still a great option as well. The jury is still out on the RYR, If your player is going to keep her pants for a while, you may wish to stick to Tackla or the other majors. (My opinion only)

Good Luck and play hard MissD

Are the 900's the women's cut? If they aren't you probably should look into those. You can get them in a tall cut too if you need too I think.

Thanks for your comments thus far. She used to wear suspenders but ditched them in the last year. I wonder why, I must ask her.

No, they aren't the women's cut. Last time we bought pants, she didn't like any of the women's pants *sigh*

The tall cut is a great suggestion... I hadn't thought of that, women' legs are proportionately longer than men's.

She might want to try a girdle (not joking) as some of them are highly adjustable. For example, they often have a velcro flap, that allows the circumference of the thigh opening to be adjsuted, this would be gret if you needed a larger size in the hips. They also just do not fall down like regular pants.

You can see a bunch in the catalogues here on MSH. :)

I'm all about the one90 pants, love them. What I like is that the protection is where it should be and they don't limit my flexibility at all. Have her try them on, if they fit her well; I would look no further.

Break in time was non-existant. They still feel the same, the only thing that might have changed a bit is the spine protection is a little softer.

But keep in mind that I stretch my legs very thoroughly before a game.

Years ago when i played for the toronto marlies we had RYR pants done for our team. A lot of teams in the GTHL had them...i found them similar to Tackla....I thought they were great and they held up really really well too. I don't remember the pricing or checked recently for that matter but I'm sure whatever it is...it's defintely worth it. One Up for RYR

I really have to check out the One90's. I also have *hips*, but unfortunately I'm not a woman.

I do use suspenders and keep the belt cinched as tight as possible. The suspenders were a BIG help, and I have no clue why I didn't get them sooner.

I love my tackla pants personally. I just got the tackla silver i think 55 pants and i love them. They fit with a lower waist for easier movement. I'm a girl (5'0" 115lbs) so i am in a jr size 180. I can't imagine going with any other pant. The protection is great on them. I've been put into the boards and blocked some monster shots with no problems.

Hope i helped.

See ya,

Heather

Hockeymom, I'm confused. Is there a Tackla 900 pants? Do you mean 9000? I have the Tackla 9000 Air pants and I'm really happy with them. They are a good fit for me and provide enough protection without being really heavy. I really like the European style pants (less bulk than my old 2003 CCMs). I'm 5'2", 130 lb woman and I wear a size 160. However, I don't really have any hips.

if i am not mistaken, one of the owners of ryr is an owner of one of the GTHL teams and/or are a sponsor...

which is why they get many of the gthl team orders..

graf pants seem to be pretty long

i had to have mine shortened.

if memory serves..

takla used to make a 900 pant.. long long ago..
