tuuk custom + V2

Recommended Posts

V2 runners were put out by Canstar in the early 1990s as an option on their high end skates, namely Bauer Supreme 2000s & 3000s as well as Micron Mega 1090s. They were advertised as being 40% as wide as a conventional runner, which would reduce drag. I think in theory it was a good idea, I myself had a pair of 2000s with the V2s.

In reality, they bent much easier because they were thinner. They were also harder to sharpen and easier to screw up by a sharpener that didn't know what they were doing. Eventually I ditched my V2 steel and went back to conventional blades. The Tuuk holders with the V2 runners had red and blue graphics on them rather than all-black. I'm honestly suprised they're still available all these years later.

Wow. I'm going to pick up a set for shits and giggles.

Actually your description is missing the most important part. It started normal from the toe to working radius, THEN tapers down to the thinner steel in the back.

Correct. Same concept as some of the high end FS blades. They are a bit of a hassle to stone as well.

Absolutely right! I was a bit tired when I originally posted, having just lined a college club game so I must've forgotten to add that. The first 2" or so from the toe back WERE standard blade width, then the steel tapered down just after the V2 logo that was on the steel.

Did you ever skate on them as well? I remember this, when they were set up right and not bent, they skated great! But, it was so easy to have them knocked out of whack. Plus, skate sharpeners weren't pleased when they were brought in for sharpening jobs. No matter where I went, I'd constantly hear "V2's, huh" usually followed by a groan or even a comment on what fun they were to sharpen.

Such a deal, $5 off! He ought to charge you the freight and that's all to get rid of those things. Useless as tits on a bull.

Being from the south I know a few people who might not find bull tit's useless. But that's a whole 'nother story right thur.

No, I had never skated on them. Always had standard Canstar steel.

I think I'm going to make some calls to see if I can pick it up locally. I'll also order some black C+s from NBH and put them on my other S500s.

I should take a month-long vacation and apply to their store just so I can scout it out. It wouldn't surprise me that they have stuff there after the artifacts that end up on the website.

Have you been? I'm picturing the Wonka factory, but with gear. Old Easton gloves...ICM holders everywhere....AC 7100s.

They really do have some relics. Cooper gear still? Come on. Their buyer(s) need some help. Just because its in the catalog doesn't mean you have to order it.

We'll be looking back in 2030 laughing that they still have Ther.maBlades in stock

Thermablades will be awesome when the Earth reverts to the Ice Age.

I'm all for Cooper gear and would snatch up whatever Techniflex elbows and shouldies I could find.

It's closeouts, baby. A lot of that old stuff is in their stores. It's like a trip down memory lane.

Along with every other store in the nation. On Sale Now, for 199.99!, BOGOF and we'll hand deliver them.

Hockeyworld is the king of decades old stock.

a couple years ago, one of my co-workers and I were in Flint, and he came across a pair of Bauer SGX Shins, the ones with the robocop looking hinging knee. He is a big fan of ugly gear, but Carolyn tried to talk him out of them and actually got him to buy a pair of Jofa's..which I agree, are a Better pad, but it wasn't two days, and he called her back up and had her send him the SGX's. He goes down a Lot to block shots, and actually has now cracked the top portion of one of the kneecaps..so in follow up, if anyone knows where one can find another pair of these relics, I would greatly appreciate it.. I'm sure he'd pay top dollar for them.

Hadn't even thought about that. I'm still gonna hold onto the image of a monkey behind the counter with an RBK shirt sharpening skates with his feet cause that's the first thing that came to mind.

I bought a pair of new-in-box Mega 10-90s off ebay a few months ago with V2 holders and steel on them. I have yet to get them profiled and to skate on them so I can't offer impressions in that respect, but they'd definitely be difficult to stone properly.

I'm having trouble locating some stainless steel blades for my custom + tuuks and this appears to be my only option. From what I'm reading, it doesn't look to be a good option. Anyone know of any other places to get some stainless steel blades, size 272?

I've never bought anything from Hockeyworld, but sometimes I'll spend a good chunk of time on there looking at all their old crap. It makes me feel like a kid again. Sometimes I think about buying a whole bunch of stuff from them just to see the looks and questions when I show up to play hockey and pull a full set of mint condition 1992 Cooper equipment out of my bag.

You don't want these. Steel for custom plus holders is still a stock item from bauer. Any local hockey store should be able to order it for you. Any good hockey store would have it in stock.
