elbow pads

Recommended Posts

So last night I took a pretty cheap hit from behind, and went into the boards arm first. My elbow is now pretty bruised up and swollen. I've been using Synergy 100 elbows that don't have great protection but are comfortable and I HATE bulky elbow pads (I try to stay away from the Chris Pronger look and feel). I need some new elbow pads that allow good movement but actually have some decent protection. Any ideas?

I don't know about protection but the sherwood 5030 traditional style elbows have good mobility so I've heard, and also they look really comfortable. But other than that I use the nike bauer vapor shift, I haven't had any problems with them yet, and they are not very bulky either, as I too , hate large clunky elbow pads

Vector 6.0 would be nice. I had them, very comfy and very protective. I had an issue with them sliding down but most people don't have that issue.

Don't buy Mission 110's, way too bulky. The Mission 85's aren't too bad a lot like Nike or Nike/Bauer high end elbows. The Sherwoods or Easton S-3's are a good bet too. Soft elbow pad design.

I recommended the 6.0 over my one90s because the one90s, although very mobile are more bulky than the 6.0. I'd have to assume that the 50/70 would be less bulky but I havent used them... I didnt realize the one90s were the least bit bulky until I put on my jersey(I use a tighter jersey so it's more apparent).

First off, thanks for all the feedback.

RBK/Jofa 2006 models 6K. Finally a pad that fits that does not slide down on the guns

That seems to be the main problem, finding a pad that won't slip or come out of place due to a hit (as mine did), offering decent protection, and not having too much bulk that interferes with range of motion. Balance those and you have a great pad.

Ok, now that you've been more specific I can give you a better answer... This is exactly what I look for in an elbow pad.

I have big forearms, the problem with big forearms is that elbow pads don't like to stay put because obviously your wrist is going to be smaller and your arm is going to taper towards that... Big/Muscular forearms don't move when you tighten elbow pads, so they will start to slip and once they move, they just keep going.

RBK/Jofa don't work for me, at all. They just slide right off. My 6.0s held fine until I started sweating then I had to fix them about every shift or every other shift. Not even close to as bad as the Jofas. My friend let me use his 10.0s once and they never moved on me. 10.0s get a big thumbs up.

The S9, is incredibly mobile, probably the best on the market. My issue here was the straps, they were tough to get on but once on, they stayed put. Again, a thumbs up.

The one90s are what I ended up going with. The anchor strap holds nicely and the honeycomb padding is moldable to your arm which helps hold them in place. Also there is the grip print liner and a mesh piece that cups the top of the elbow making it near impossible to pull down when your arm is bent. Amazingly enough I was able to go down to a medium elbow pad in the one90s, definitely gets rid of some bulk right there. Mobility, I put them inbetween the vectors and S9.

I'm very happy with my one90s but I probably wouldnt regret the 10.0 or S9 pads either.

Another recommendation for the S5 / S9 pads. Stay in place and not too big.

I second this. I use S5 and I love them... I hate the padding in the Sherwood traditionals and am not a big fan of HUGE elbow pads... it took a long time to settle on the S5s but I did and I love them.

I've been using Easton S1's in a friendly league and would definitely recommend Easton for non-bulky elbow pads.

these are a lot like my synergys that i got hurt wearing... good pads for a friendly league no doubt, but i need something a little more substantial

I have some DR elbow pads that have a thick elastic strap that covers half of your forearm in addition to the regular straps. They hold really tight and are protective as anything else on the market.

If you feel like some elbow pads restrict mobility, look for three piece pads.

What 3-piece elbows are available in stores? What's worked for me is to just wear a long-sleeve shirt. For some reason, my elbows stay put a little better that way.

You should be able to tell just by looking at them.

This is obviously a two piece pad. Bicep and then one piece for the arm.

This is a three piece pad. Bicep, elbow and forearm.

Most three piece pads look a bit more bulky in the elbow but offer better mobility and comfort.

Easton makes the best 3-piece elbow(in my opinion).

I have yet tyo find anything that fits better than my DR EP44s. The extra elastic webbing keeps them from sliding at all and as huge as they are, I don't feel like I have anything on my elbows.
