Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I'm a sucker for these Made shows. Yes the girl was mentally deficient, but hey, she's gotten into the sport we love so much that we post about it on hockey gear forums. And don't tell me you guys wouldn't go 5-hole on her when she's legal in your province.

oliverloran 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I don't beleive that this girl didnt get payed by mtv, so they can tell that even such can play hockey! Same with the one which was aired when a similiar type of girl wanted to learn how to skateboard, tho she had more success.
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Holy bitchfest, Batman!Could you guys be more bitter about this girl? MTV getting behind anything having to do with hockey can be nothing but a good thing for the game in the States.

MTV getting behind anything having to do with hockey can be nothing but a good thing for the game in the States. That's where I'll disagree. Whenever I hear about MTV getting behind something I assume they'll find a way to project it in the worst possible light, something they do often.

usahockey22 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Compared to the usual media coverage of hockey, which includes the zednik injury, bertuzzi and brashear incidents, guys getting tomahawked in the face with sticks, and guys getting intentionally stabbed with skates (simon), and then the occasional epic on-ice brawls...i'd say that this MTV show couldn't have made the situation with hockey in the public eye any worse. cxo 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I rarely hear the public speaking about hockey as it is, with the exception of the few plays that make it to the ESPN Top Ten plays of the week, if you're speaking American public anyhow. All you hear about as far as baseball is cocnerned is steroid usage, all you hear about in football or basketball is players doing ridiculous things (rape, shootings, deaths of other sorts) off the court or field and it doesn't hurt their reputations nearly as much as people say it will. The whole idea of hockey having a horrific public image is blown a bit out or proportion if you think about it. How it works in Canada or Europe, I do not know, or care, as I don't live in either of those places.
usahockey22 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Well baseball probably has the worst image right now...but football and basketball I disagree. At least in my experience, football and basketball games and plays are always a popular conversation piece, and I think this goes for most of the country. There might be some scandals, but they don't overshadow the sports. Hockey, you never hear anyone speak about in normal conversation, unless it's a group of hockey fans, or someone who just saw some gruesome clip on the news. Of course Michigan is closer to hockey-country in the US than where I am, so you've got a different perspective...but it's still noticeable.(i.e. I mentioned a hockey game to a friend the other day, who immediately said something like "Oh well I'm not interested in hockey too much...but I saw that guy get his neck totally JACKED UP on sportscenter the other night..." etc) referring to Zednik. MR.Bobby.Orr 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 It's funny. I was in my bedroom watching the Ranger game while my girlfriend was in the livinrg room watching this made episode. I only caught a few moments during commercials. That girl was REALLY annoying. However, it's nice to see hockey on mainstream tv not portrayed as a sport for homocidal maniacs. The NHL and hockey can use all the good publicity it can get and even though this girl SUCKED atleast it reminded some people that hockey still exists and it can be a great sport to watch and play. cxo 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Hockey is popular in scattered pockets in this state, but not really in my area. Very average/typical sports coverage and talk where I live. It's really useless to argue this point, but I still don't feel that hockey is viewed as that much worse as other sports for the simple fact that people don't talk about it much period, as you mentioned. Basketball's big talk is all about the resurrection of the Celtics. I believe your issue is that you are not just a glass half empty kind of guy but that there are also pieces of broken glass in it. hockechamp14 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2008 They made life way harder than it had to be. They should have spent some time trying to get her to the point where she can at least bend her knees a little bit. Bodyweight squats, bodyweight lunges. She's like a twig, no wonder she couldn't bend her knees enough to generate any skating power.I don't think the ex-nhler teaches mites to take people's legs out, but I imagine he was trying to use her fear as an advantage for a drill because I imagine she was scared shitless of getting knocked over.
