Compression Tops

Recommended Posts

I've been recently looking around for compression tops, mostly long sleeve. I've seen Nike's Zoom Bang thing, but i dont know if its worth it. So what are your experiences, which are the most comfortable\affordable ? Thanks

Folks,

A heads up for the Itech jp405. I've been sporting one the past few skates, works fine. Then threw it in the wash just like the puckskin ... bad move. White garments had yellow spots and appeared darker,no longer white. This happened to a lessor extent on the second wash and I washed seperate for the third time (yes, I can be thick). I warned a bud who purchased the same shirt later and he hand washed with water turning yellow. Of coarse, afterwords RTFM and yup,tag say wash with darks.

So keep the Itech seperate from the lights, or your significant other (your mother for a few here ...as best I can tell) will not be pleased.

I used to wear the itech one piece (shorts & top in one) and now I use a two piece under armor set up...

I dont notice a difference between hot or cool or anything... I think the under armor has held up better

I personally wear an adidas top. It's a tight fitting top made for running but it wicks the sweat away like any other garnment that has been mentioned. The price tag on the thing was something like $60  but i paid a whole 10 bucks for it. :D I also got a loose fitting reebok top (both are long sleeved) that I dont wear as often.

I highly recommend a compression top like has been mentioned. I forgot mine one time and I wore a cotton shirt underneath my gear... bad mistake. I could feel the sweat drenched shirt and it got all uncomfortable.... not fun. Any type of moisture wicking top is better than a cotton shirt, just get one thats on sale :)

Most are just spandex with a wicking chemical anyway. They're pretty much all the same.

Unerarmour's popularity is unwarranted IMO. They were one of the first to really market the stuff, but the brand is such a joke now that they've branched into just about every piece of clothing possible.

UA used to be marketed directly at military personnel that needed moisture wicking to keep body armour and gear from overheating themselves. They sold out and went for everything they could get their hands on. Some of their stuff is nice, but most is over priced generics.

i love these on the ice, just like "dangle" said after trying the gear it feels weird not to wear it. i have a few pieces from UA, RBK and a no-name walmart brand and i dont see much of a difference in performance between the brands.

I've worn $40+ UA/Nike/RBK compression shirts and some knock off one called "Medalist" that I paid 9.99 for. Both were very similar.

I know I couldn't wear a regular t-shirt anymore.

I've tried the cheap stuff... Works fine at first but it doesn't work as long. If you're looking for something you can wash a lot and still work well, UA or Nike for sure. The other stuff works well but lasts about 1/3-1/2 as long before it gets that almost stickish, worn out feeling.

I agree that the nike and UA are king as far as durability. I actually have a bunch of Itech's old Ice Air shirts, loose and compression that I have been using for a while for gym and hockey and they have held up surprisingly well. I bought like 8 of them when they went on clearance a couple years ago. I generally wash all this stuff on the gentle cycle with cold water and then air dry.

Still rocking the same old sleeveless Nike Dri-Fits that I've had for the past 5+ years. True, that they don't have the most appealing of smells, and the moisture wicking ability must be nearly zilch after washing after every game or gym session, but they still feel good on me. By the way, I have never gotten used to long-sleeved ones. I find that my elbow pads move around in them. I've always been an advocate of sleeveless with elbow pads with wrist guards with short-cuffed gloves. That's what works for me.

http://hockeymonkey.com/rbk-apstretchmeshlongsleeve.html

been on these ones for the past 2 months and really like the mesh at the back compared to my underarmours, other than that they're pretty much the same, so for back to back games i still get to use the underarmours with the rubber dots on the arms http://www.underarmour.ca/ProductDetail.cf...p;pf_id=1003232

I have a short sleeve RBK compression top in navy blue with a short sleeve in XXL that I find to be the most comfortable and best fit for me regarding hockey. The olive and brown ones made by Under Armour are great if you're in the Middle East.

Thanks for the advice, i am looking for the ones you mentioned, but does any1 know what's with hockeymonkey, because they don't have almost anything ( at least in my size, L ), and a lot of the stuff is sold out. I've been looking around, but if you know any site which has a wide range of products and if possible hockey equipment too, it would be great to know.

For hockey, I like Nike. Their looser stuff has a better texture.. but nike dryfit holds in smell worse.

I love the fit and feel of my Nike top, but I may have to throw it out before it contaminates my C/A. That shirt stunk from about skate #4.

I'm using a Champion shirt from Target, was about $12 I think, same thing as UA. Works great, very light, thin, and does its job. Smells pretty bad, but I'll probably just grab another couple and rotate them.

I've tried playing in a t-shirt twice and you just get soaked by the end of the game. Very strange feeling now.

I've worn Itech, UA, Champion, Nike, Reebok, all are the same and I would not wear anything else (like a cotton t) again. Recently got a Reebok compression fit with a mesh back, felt great, kept me cool during a heavy skating drop in. I would buy whatever is on sale- TJ Maxx and Marshalls always carry this stuff. I also ref, and in the winter months, Cold gear or Wiki max cold long sleeves are great.

I have a ton of these, and I dont like any of them better than the other. The one annoying thing is that my elbow pads slide around since I just buy the plain ones without the rubber texture at the elbows

I have one from a company called TEK. I don't know if the AHL has equipment contracts like the NHL does with Reebok (for example), but if it's possible I think mine might be a Philadelphia Phantoms pro-stock based on the color and where I got it from. It's alright, but it sure doesn't keep you warm.
