EA to take Take Two Interactive(2K)

Recommended Posts

It doesn't sit well with me, as I find 2k's NHL games to be a lot more fun than EA's, plus the EA "realistic skating" just feels jerky and unnatural to me. Haven't even bought EA's NHL games since 2005.

It hasn't happened yet and it might not happen at all. Take Two turned down a bid previously, although I expect they may eventually sell. It really sounds like a situation of anti-trust to me. One super software conglomerate with zero opposition in sight, prices will rise and quality will continue to languish.

Must be nice to just be able to buy your competition, in stead of work hard to keep producing the better product.

I wonder if EA will bring MSH (well, JR anyway) on board next year.

I guess there's some good to be integrated but 2k8 absolutely sucked.

Finally someone who agrees with me! I said that from day one and still havent changed my mind. How many 2ks have you owned before this one?

They should make one version as "arcade" as possible and keep one as the sim version.

Would be nice if they went the direction of the old "Hitz" line for an alternative. The last Hitz they made (whichever one had Lidstrom on the cover) was horrible, but the ones before that with the 3v3 were very fun, especially with friends over. The customization options were great, and adding names that the announcer would use was fantastic fun.. hearing:

"Pecker sends it to Meat! Meat dishes it to Nuts! Nuts to Pecker! Pecker puts it past Uncle Louis!!!!!!"

I had a team of gigantic 6'8 270 lbs literal sharks. With a couple of Devil headed guys for finesse...lol.

good times..

But the EA purchase bothers me quite a bit. EA is notorious for sitting on thier ass as far innovation and positive change go in thier hockey games. Hell, there really haven't been any significant changes to the core of the game since NHL 99. Without competition they might as well stop calling the game by the year numbers and just call it NHL (insert roster version).

I'd be happy with a game that can be played and enjoyed by a casual player. With the changes to the controls over the years, you have to play a lot to be halfway decent. I don't have the time to play 20 hours a week.

I'm the same way, I can't get into a video game and sit on it straight for hours on end. At the least they can split it up and have more than just exhibition and career modes. One for people who play occasionally, the career for people who play religiously and an arcade for people who like the cartoon-y aspects. They do sort of attempt this, but I think they could do better. At least on 06 or 07 they had the NHL '94 sim added, that was a great little bonus.

I like 2k8, because of the controls. No more accidental shots or not shooting when you want to.

I know it can be frustrating and embarrassing, TBL, but as you get older it will get better.

I personally like how it is better and easier to score in 2k8 than it is to score in NHL08 series, and I think both sets have their pros and cons but I hope they don't merge because I like the article said like having my choices between some sports games
