benefit of white spraypainted twigs

Recommended Posts

I recently noticed(in NCAA hockey)that some players are spray-painting their sticks white. I'm guessing its to some advantage, but what do you guys know of it? anyone here do this? It just struck me as kind of strange, as it literally contrasts with the usual blacked-out stick.

i used to paint old wood sticks for better grip on the gloves... kind of like the stick-um ones i have now. i dont know if white has any significance, but the glossy paint is almost exactly like stick-um...

MIGHT be something to do with a sponser. had a buddy who played in a tournament and they had to white out the logos on their sticks if they werent easton or something like that. not sure what tournament or where, just what he told me.

I remember playing for a Bauer sponsored team and anything which was NOT Bauer had to be painted or taped over. My sticks were painted black, gloves covered with electric tape, and Jofa logo on my cage taped as well.

They could just be doing to do it and for no good reason at all. I used to paint all my sticks silver...

NCAA teams that are NikeBauer sponsored leave all logos intact. I have an SL from my D1 team that is unpainted and most of the players have Itech cages on their 4500s with the chin, temple and strap logos intact.

playing goalie most of my life i always found it much harder to play against an all white stick. a white stick/blade with white tape is much harder to read the angle of where the puck is going to be going. it also is harder to focus on in general. i know the black on black hides the puck, but lets be honest...you arent fooling too many goalies with it....

I wonder if i only need to spray paint from about blade - 1/4 way up. to get the so called effect of not seeing the angle. because I don't want feeling on my gloves.

Didn't mean to come off as an ass, but you guys are looking too much into it.

+1 Just paint the damn stick if you want to! haha

Really, its not hard, just buy a can of paint (white seems to be the color of choice right now), and paint it.

I will advise doing it stages though otherwise it will run if you put too much on...

Realistically, if you're just not a goal scorer some spray paint isn't going to turn you into Ovechkin or Kovalchuk. You might get a coupe more, but dont fool yourself into thinking something that isn't going to happen.

For wooden sticks, a primer layer would be needed for right?

Oh and also doesnt this make it harder for your team mates to pass to your stick? (if u know what I mean)
