New shinguards in need

Recommended Posts

I just got my Stealth S5 shinpads broken ( after 1 year of use ) , so i'd need new ones. My major recommedations would be for the next ones: no transparent policarbonate junk and i'd consider comfort as a main aspect for the next ones along with durability. And also, i had some problems with the stealths that the inner liner was quite slippery, so the shinguards didnt always stayed at the correct place, i'd like to get rid of this too. thanks for the help in advance

NBH One90s are great. They offer a great deal of protection and have the grip liner which keeps them in place very well. I have blocked many shots and taken several swipes across the shins and they have help up well.

My personal recomendation would go to the RBK 9K shin pads. Have been wearing them since they were Jofa''s any years ago and i wouldn't wear anything else but them.

5K's I find are almost the same as the 9K for about half the price.

The pads stay in place okay with the straps and tape but I find the grip print on the liner wears off quickly.

I have the 6k's I think any rbk/jofa are great shins and elbows, they have removable calf protection which is very nice, and are very wide at the bottom if you back tuck your socks and wear your shins over your tounges.

one90s are pretty protective but the best features are that they are slim, stay in place and the hard wrap is moldable. Right now HG has a sale on some RBKs... If you want something bulkier and damn near bulletproof, you cant go wrong with RBK.

BTW, I said "pretty protective" about the one90s. The knee cap does leave something to be desired, that is the only real weak point in the shin pad. It's still protective but not bulletproof.

I've always worn Jofa/Rbk shins and I would never wear anything else. They are both comfortable and protective. I don't feel the "bulk", but compared to other brands I've seen, I can see why people would call them bulky.

depends on your style of play. i find that most defensemen like to stick with a rbk shin pad because it is a lot bigger compared to other shins.

the forwards tend to lean towards the nike bauer line up a lot more because of its stream lined shape.

i am a d-man and love my rbk 6k's but the stupid fit lite strap that sits on your shin broke on me.

and go with that feels right.

I would go with Reeboks shins, best on the market. I wear the Reebok 8K's, absolute tanks. I also wear the NBH One 90's for pickup but I've heard about the notorious cracking of the knee pad syndrome regarding them so I don't use them for my more serious league play.

Thanks for the help, considering everyone's advices and today i had to go with my dad's jofa 3500, i think im gonna buy some 9ks next week. I dont want to get in any risky business, like some ppl said about the knee cap of the one90. Otherwise im totally dissatisfied with easton this way, because im a forward, my weekly avarge ice-time is 2 and im not wighting so much that it would crack under me. Now i just gotta figure out what to do with the right one, im gonna do some giveaway i think.

I'd look at other offerings from RBK. They're all good, you'd probably be good with the 4k or 6k. Slightly less bulk and still bullet proof.

Second that. Likely any RBK woudl be fine, but the 9k have a great system for the straps on the back that make them secure and easy to get on and off.

Is there any disadvanteges what may occur due to these are more bulky?

You can have an issue if you tuck you shin pads. Mainly it's just a comfort factor, the straps on the newer shin pads are normally good about holding the shins in place.
