For hockey, my dominant (right hand) is on the top. This is simply how I learned how to play.

For Golf dominant is on the bottom.

For baseball I bat righty and my dominant hand is on top.

For lacrosse I am ambidextrous but I learned playing lefty, dominant right hand on the bottom.

I'm pretty much ambidextrous but obviously I do have a dominate hand. I am right handed:

In hockey, I shoot right handed as a forward.

As a goalie, I shoot left handed.

In baseball, I was a switch hitter.

I can throw a football with either hand, same with baseball... but I can throw a baseball with my right foot too. haha ...yeah, i know and no, I have no idea how I found that out.

Bottom, RH.

Unfortunately I wasn't given the best coaching here to begin with and thus chose which side the same way you play cricket. Dominant hand on the bottom for power and control.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous... <_<

Bottom.

I'm right handed, but play soccer with a dominant left foot. I used to train for freekicks by kicking from the halfway line. Wasnt a good idea to practice from that far out, and hit the same teacher who was standing behind the goal... TWICE in 2 mins. Needless to say, she confiscated my soccer ball.

For baseball, I'd throw right handed, but could switch up when I was at bat.

I'm still amazed how people don't get it. People that are Right Handed are generally supposed to play lefty. Why? It's about stick-handling, not shooting. On puck-handling, the top hand is the control wrist while the lower wrist is only supplementary.

I've also found I'm much more accurate in snapping my top hand more and using my bottom hand for guidance. The claims that the dominant hand being lower means you shoot harder is incredibly short sighted. If you're too lazy to either do wrist curls or practice shooting to even out your forearm/wrist strength, then you shouldn't be playing hockey to begin with.

Why do 2 of 3 Nhl'ers shoot lefty? It's not random chance. The fact that we as Americans aren't getting proper instruction on which hand to hold the stick with is killing us. It makes stick-handling a mystery for kids. A hockey stick is not a baseball bat, it has totally different mechanics and technique, wake up people!

Its all with what your comfortable with. Its not like LH pitchers are throwing with the wrong hand. Its just what feels right.

Sorry, but I've gotta disagree on this one. Like the author of the article even suggested, people assume a hockey stick is governed by the same fundamentals as a baseball bat or golf club. They're making the game more difficult than it really is. They are likely using the bottom (right) hand as the dominant hand on stick-handling, which feels more "natural" but is completely wrong.

They both have their benefits. Typically a strong hand down low will give you a more accurate slap shot but a strong hand on the top will give you a more accurate wrist shot.

BUT if you're not comfortable, you cant perform to the best of your abilities. Technically, right handed baseball players should bat left handed too but how many of them do you see? Not many. It's a mix between comfort and the "norm." Of course baseball'sidea of a RH person batting "Right handed" very well might impact an american hockey player.

I'm a righty, but I shoot lefty. I write, throw, bat, and golf righty.

Same as this guy.

True for me too. I hear what you're saying TBL, it's just one of my (very few) pet peeves :D

Believe me, if I could puckhandle lefthanded I would. The only way I'd be able to freaking puckhandle lefthanded is if the lie was 14, old habits die hard. ;)

Do everything righty (write, throw, shoot, hit, golf, goal blocker) except I shoot pool lefty.

Same with me. I guess the reason that I shoot pool lefty is because I hold everything else that way.

I'm a lefty and use my dominant hand on top (shoot RH). It felt natural and I assumed that your dominant hand is meant to stabilize and control the stick when stickhandling than purely for shooting.

Ahh yes, same here with cuesticks. Weird, because it's not like it's too much different from holding a hockey stick. I mean, it is, but still...

Im the same as you guys^^^ i thought it was strange that absolutely everything i do was righty except pool. I thought it might be because i prefer my left hand at the butt for everything, but i paintball with my left hand on the grip. So if I were to shoot a rifle, it would be opposite to pool. Kind of strange IMO
